Sweet HQ Recreation

I was browsing through and stumbled across what I daresay is the most hardcore HQ board out there. If I had any talent for art I would recreate this in a heartbeat. I didn't even realize what it was made of until I read the comments and really payed attention. Is anyone else jealous and want one for themselves?

Alf's board is pretty nice. He carved that board from a single piece of foam, by hand.

The lettering and whatnot was separately sculpted, as were the small details like bones, slime, etc.

I wish I had even a moderate amount of artistic ability now. Now I just need to get my wife into gaming so I can get one of these myself.

I guess I've just been oblivious to the amount of nostalgia that HeroQuest brings out of people.

It's just amazing what people make isn't it. Seems like HeroQuest is one of those rare games that makes people want to add stuff and be creative, because it's just such an awesome game.

I bought the molds sold from these guys to cast your own 3cm bricks. They cost $100 after shipping, to the US. They were alright.

I built this using those molds. I made the complete board using resin tiles (which cost a fortune). I wanted to make all the rooms "drop-in/out" modular, but gave up when I started having respiratory problems from all the sanding required. Plus, the original paint job from the board was always fascinating to me, and I just didn't have the gusto to recreate it for this.

Interest isn't a problem, it's the . I liked how they made the tiles out of cork-board though. That is something that falls within my price range. Am going to swing by a local hobby store to see if they have anything like that. I've been wanting modular tiles ever since I ran some D&D games. Paper doesn't seem that elegant excluding a few that I've seen and resin gets expensive. Cork intrigues me as an alternative and if it's based on thin but sturdy plastic backing or maybe thin boarding it should still be light enough to transport and hold up enough to work well. Another project to be mentally filed away till it can be completed. I just hate half done attempts mocking me in their uncompleted state.
