Re-Boxing HeroQuest

Postby mainat » March 15th, 2013, 12:46 pm

Hello All!
My copy of HeroQuest has taken some abuse over the years. I've had to reinforce the box with box tape, I've lost the wings to my Gargoyle, and the candles are all "burnt" down on the desk. But otherwise is in pretty good condition. However I wanted to share what I've done recently to make my HeroQuest game last another 20+ years.

I recently purchased this storage container from The Container Store:
http://www.containerstore.com/shop/collections/hobby/partsBoxes?productId=10033488&N=230

All the pieces fit in just perfectly as well as the manual and quest guides. Obviously the board does not fit. Neither does Zargon's blind. I'll try this setup for a while and see how I like it. Verdict is still out.

I've also printed out all new cards (thanks drathe for your work there!). I had Office Depot print them for me on 120# card stock, and they look great! Not quite as thick as the HQ cards but not bad. I also had them mass cut them down to card size for me. That wasn't so great, I had to go back in and trim them up. And finally I sleeved them in Fantasy Flights clear sleeves (green package) and they fit perfectly! As do the HQ cards that came with the game.

And then I have added red glass stone counters to my HQ copy, I like using these for hero health instead of paper and pencil. Easier for Zargon to see what everyone is at as well, those sneaky hero's like to cover up their sheets sometimes. And Zargon likes to know when a hero is gushing blood and limping on a broken leg. :D

Would love to hear what others have done.

post some pictures ;) I'd love to see what you did.

I built my own box!

So have others in that topic. Everything fits nicely, but my collection is growing out of hand, and I can only bring with me in the box what I'm planning to use for a game. The rest needs to be stored in miniature cases (I ordered two from Reaper).

I thought about building my own box but while I was roaming around a Gamersworkshop I found this
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1095468
The board fits inside and you can fit all the figures in it with room to grow, You may have to cut some of the sheets to add in the bigger figures but its sturdy and Cheaper than some options I have seen

Try these Mike, far better than the GW cases and more choice.
