How rare?

Postby Blackthorn » December 10th, 2012, 9:00 pm

As I type this, there are 14 copies of the Barbarian Quest Pack and 10 of the Elf Quest Pack on eBay. Just how rare were these expansions?

I couldn't say for sure. My guess would be that whole, complete expansion might be pretty rare.
Just as whole, complete sets of the game system might be pretty rare.

Back in the early 90's you could easily find the main game system in chain stores like Venture, K-mart, and Toys-R-Us. Kellar's Keep and Return of the Witch Lord were also finding shelf space. Not so for the Barbarian and Elf Quest Packs (at least on the Southside of the Chicagoland area, where I was.) Too bad the waybackmachine doesn't have a rewind button--I didn't order them direct with the leaflet that came in the KK and RotWL boxes.

Here in Florida I bought my original game system at Toys "Я" Us and later found Kellar's Keep and Return of the Witch Lord in the discount bins. I don't recall seeing the flyer for the Barbarian and Elf Quest Packs, but I must have since I was aware of their existence somehow. I've always assumed that the high prices these two expansions command was due to their rarity, but based on the number of eBay auctions lately they seem as plentiful as KK and RotWL, if not more so. Maybe it's just a fluke.

How the heck did you get that "R" backwards?!

I figure there are currently so many BQP and EQP expansions on auction because it is the Christmas season. Sellers have been holding out for the historically most lucrative time for HQ auctions. (I'm basing the historical part on something drathe once posted about when to buy on Ebay.)
