Making treasure more real

Postby torilen » November 26th, 2012, 2:47 pm

I think this might have been a topic of discussion before, but I would have no idea where, so I'm going to put
my ideas here.

I thought about this one the way home: How to make the "gold" found by heroes more real to the players. EASY!
Everyone has pennies lying around doing nothing. Take those pennies, clean them off good, and then paint them
with gold paint. TA-DA! Instant treasure horde waiting to be given away.

Also - again...something someone might have already said. If you use jewels and gems as treasure, you can go to
a craft store and get some of those glass bead-like things that go in a vase with fake flowers. They come in all sorts
of colors, and would serve as perfect gems. Simply give a certain amount of gold value to each size of bead, and there
you go...more to add to the treasure horde.

I'd cash in the pennies and purchase gold paint and bingo chips from the dollar store.

The gold coin markers from Descent, 1st ed. are very useful.
They have 25, 100, and 500 values, so are perfectly compatible with HQ euipment costs.
And they are very thick and robust, like all Descent cardboard parts.

kool.
Or you can use girl toys - they have these jewelry making kits with plastic beads that look vaguely like gems too.

Once upon a time I came upon some instructions online somewhere on how to make your own easy treasure pile. So easy I could remember how to do it months later, even though I can't find it anymore.

Here are some pics with a sloppy paint job, goblin for scale. (Still got to paint that guy's base)

Cheap plastic poker chips. Spray paint some bronze, silver or gold.

I meant for this to be as a variation in using the treasure chests. After rereading maybe you guys are talking about tokens in place of writing quantities on the character sheets?
Or are you talking about putting plain flat tokens on the board?
