European Edition

Postby drathe » March 6th, 2009, 10:38 pm

Often times when I glance through the quest books of any of the European Editions, I'm completely murfed. Through the Main System, Kellar's Keep, and Return of the Witch Lord every monster, big, small, boss... Only one body point. Sure they switched it up in Ogre Horde and Wizard of Morcar by adding a few more for the Ogres and Mages, but everything else still has one body point. "Here's the Witch Lord, the most powerful Villain in the Game!" "Oops, One skull, and no Black Shield rolled... he's dead!"

It makes you wonder if the game was ever actually play tested before going to market...

It's my understanding that the European release was the play-testing and that it was revised and released in N.A. That's the way I understood it.

If thats the case then why did they continue to have all of their expansions with tasty treat monsters? They could have just released the extended N.A. rules with the expansions. Unless all of the expansions were released before the revised N.A. edition.

Yep but you forgot to tell that the 10 quests of "karak varn" or "return of the witch lord" or the 5 ones of "wizards of morcar" had to be played in continue (like the 3 last ones of the game system) without going back in town and buying new gear or potions. (no potions listing available !)
Treasure cards had more importance in this case (wandering monsters too !) and dying was a huge challenge for the survivors.
I also forgot to mention that we only had 5 artefacts (the main system ones) so no magic dagger or additional spell : nothing !

Even if you could retrieve your body & spirit points between 2 quests it was harder to survive each time you made a step deeper & deeper into the crypts & catacombs.

The wizards of morcar have never been completed (everyone died at the second quest) here (too hard with those magic traps you cannot find and avoid) karak varn & Return of the witch lord were difficult too (I remember some dead) was ok but some quest were hard.
I just finished against the ogre horde last saturday and only 1 could reach the exit at the last quest !!! (lol)

yep !
The deadly combinaison is :
-Bad luck in dices destiny
-A lot of monsters
-Traps
-No health potion

The one body point rule is terrific sometimes...

-> By the way they did it ! They've survived to against the ogre horde (without the 1B rule) but I gave them potions & all artefacts + all the gear they wanted .... was hot !

The North American treasure deck does have 3 potions of healing instead of 2, so my parties do have plenty of potions to go around, even with more monster body points.

Congratulations on your Ogre Horde campaign! Feel free to tell us more about it. Post any photos if you have some too.
