Is the World of Heroquest the World of Warhammer?

Yes, they are one and the same.

Yes, they are essentially the same, but we musn't feel obliged to adopt everything from WH to HQ.

Depends, they once have been the same, but since the world of Warhammer has been developed further into a different direction since the days of Heroquest, they are by now two different worlds.

No, the guys from Greed Workshop wanted it to be, but this was not the intention of MB, who own the game.

No, they are two different worlds, and that's that. Any similarities are due to the fact that the same people created the backgrounds and re-used some ideas.

I use a home-made world background anyways.

I don't know if I have posted this yet, but here's the thing:
The map is essentially the same, but there are contradictions in lore.
As an avid Marvel comic book reader I know about ALTERNATE REALITIES/TIMELINES.
There's no Morcar in Warhammer canon (now; there was a Morkar...) so it's safe to say that the HQ timeline branched off some time before he rose to prominence.

I think some don't take the Marvel Winter Special seriously because of the humorous approach taken in The Monstrous Regiment section by the freelance writers (either Ken and Jo Walton or Paul Travers). Nowhere else is a Chaos Dwarf presented. Associating him with Skullmar doesn't work for me, especially when bonehead casts a fireball at an insulted Orc wife--can he do that? Even worse is the Zombie Hippopotomus reference at the end. There also is the odd picture of the Goblin and Orc--their size is reveresed, just as with the art of the Sticker Book. It appears in the early days some disjoined concepts were floating out there.

It also would have helped if the Skaven, Rat Ogre, White Seer, and Troll were represented in the expansions. Mainly they appear only in a White Dwarf Quest, The Halls of Durrag-Dol. The Eyes of Chaos (from WD) even features a Troll in the beastiary with 4 Body Points instead of the 1 assigned from HoDD and the Marvel HeroQuest Special. Personally, I prefer the 4 Body Point Troll. I think the Rat Ogre should have more Body Points, as well. Fits my NA sensibilities better.

I do like the descriptions of the various Heroes, and I think that prose works better as canon. Stephen Baker appears to have had some input there.

I started this post before all of the wierd time-disruption started taking effect. Damn you and your time-inversion theories, Doc Brown!

Short answer... YES!
full Orc wrote: I don't know if I buy that the heroquest events are minor, the emperor being trapped in a seiege for instance is a big deal. At least it would be in the warhammer background.
The threat of Morcar is definitely not a minor event in the world of warhammer, and it is mentioned. In WH sources Morcar was the first everchosen of chaos, leading the first storm of chaos, but this was before the founding of the empire. This is why I wrote elsewhere "there is no Mentor in Warhammer, and Morcar and his armies don't fit in the timeline".

It's recently been reconned, Morkar (as he's called in warhammer, not Morcar) is a young boy during the events of the third Sigmar book. He even gets a cameo. So the lore of him being everchosen before the Empire is no longer canon.

Right now, during End Times, the whole Warhammer world is being shattered.
Quite exciting. I'll follow the storyline without giving GW my money, cause I'm interested in how they'll restructure their bloated and horribly unimaginative, derived world.

Arrgh, the're just going to do the same thing that Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Magic the Gathering, Planescape, Diskworld and many other fantasy/sci-fi setting have done and create a multiverse. Sounds like a lazy way to explain away all the inconsistencies while hitting the reset button.

Well yes and no, the new story does hint at though, is Chaos destroys each world, and the survivors flee and start a new one, untill chaos arrives there and the cycle continues. So for example, all the elf gods are actually survivors of the last world.

But really it's just a retelling of storm of chaos, cept it's also destroying everything instead of leaving everything back to normal.

Basically, it's their way to de-bloat their publications by leaving six factions of the sixteen they have right now and modernize concepts and gameplay.
Naturally, they want to sell miniatures for higher margins which is why minis are becoming maxis and the game is starting to lean towards skirmish scope with big army play still a viable option.
It's a good concept when put into these words.
