Come on man don't stick with the mechanics, neither the short sword is his weapon, he actually wields a hand axe.
Bracers will give him the effect of battle axe when bought with a broadsword. (handaxe+runes)

We can trade items though, and troll slayers are all about using the biggest weapons they can get hold of. How about swapping the helmet for the battleaxe, you know it makes sense.

No, because Battle Axe + Bracers(A)= 5 attack dice. You may trade any item he can use though.

I told him too that i wish my system could be more open to RPG interventions but it can't.

That's far too diluted, I'd rather use Magnus. If you don't want me using one defence dice to ballance out increased magical power that eliminates a few of them. How about this one? It must close to compatible. Increased speed (highest two of three dice) to make up for limited spell choices (no healing spells).

The Shadow Ranger may have 5 instead of 4 Body points with the skills you described. So:
B5 / M5
A2 / D2
2 spell sets: 1 Air or Fire + 1 WoZ set
Due to his limitation of selecting other spell sets he moves with the highest two of three red dice.

When you select your hero choose a hero icon from page 1 to make your template.

I'll take the shadow ranger then if I can use it uneditted. 1MP to start with, 1 for spell casting, 1 for each spell set, 1 for movement, 1 for minor movement boost at the expense of healing spells and the use of a crossbow in place of chainmail (last one at no cost because of the included downgrades) = 4BP/6MP with 100gp left over to go towards Sir Jason's shortsword. Is this okay?

If it is I'll have fire and protection spells. I don't like the US fow or bof but courage is awesome. Her name's Alisa Moonshine and I'll have the female elf icon of course, C4.

If Ibagaza or Orthos have the broadsword and staff then she could have their spear. We have 150gp left after buying the shortsword and if we buy a dagger for the alchemy potion then that's another 75gp, or we could just use it on the staff.

We've already got a couple of dagggers so we've got 250gp. Orthos gets the shield, the dwarf with anger management issues that calls himself a trollslayer ( ) gets the helmet and we could get another braodsword or bracers and a halberdier or a few men-at-arms, or we could sell the staff and get more stuff.

Actually I think the goblinslayer should get the spear and Moony can have his shortsword. No wait, Sir Jason can have his shortsword so we don't have to buy one then the two veterans can have broadswords and the two newbies can have spears

Yay. I'm not sure what you mean about the gold though. Are you saying she doesn't have 100gp, or just that the trollslayer can't give his shortsword to Sir Jason because he can't have a spear (sorry I thought spear was on the list) to replace it?

So we've got 415gp, 215 + 100 that comes with the new elf + 100 for the alchemy potion and if the trollslayer swaps his shortsword with Sir Jason's broadsword we don't have to buy him a weapon. I could take the helmet in that case and Orthos could have the shield, and we've still got all our gold to spend. How about another broadsword so I can have one of the spears, a helmet for the trollslayer and if we sell the other dagger we can get a halberdier?
