I'd back it today at Mythic tier if the option for a late pledge were offered to me. Even if they completely arse it up, it's new game parts. A standard 25mm board, a pile of minis—Yes, D&D style, but D&D style minis in LIKE style can be had anywhere—and new quests that will undoubtedly be remade in Heroscribe in classic style (I like the classic icons much better.) I'm willing to drop $150 on that to let Hasbro know that I care about the brand, even if they don't really.

Maybe somebody at the Inn will sell you their set after the big reveal? Who knows. But it sounds like the plan is to put it into mass production rather than being a limited edition one-off and at least the high end gameshops will get it at some point once all the pledgers get theirs (we don't yet have any proof that big box retailers will get it, but I certainly hope they do that!).

If I can buy it after the release and I'm just missing the special minis … I'm sure Mentor, Morcar, Ulag, and all the other special characters (even Rogar) have suitable D&D minis I could buy. That's one of the reasons why I'm interested in the game, after all; the availability of D&D minis that will look like they could've come in the box.

Yeah the wizkidz online catalog gives a lot of miniatures that seem very similar in style to the look of these Remake minis even if they don't have an exact match for each and every one.

My point is that at least SOME of the miniatures are supposed to be exclusive to pledgers (and I would be shocked if some were re-sold for ridiculous prices online after), but others we're not sure if they'll be sold seperately later or not, and a few are "pulse exclusives" which implies you can only get them if you order directly from the website, once it's sold to the general public.

But all in all you get a complete set with all the miniatures no matter what set you buy. We're only speculating that some of the "unlocks" are "required" for the new quest books. They would have had to assume that not all goals would be reached, hence the books could only expect you to have the miniatures that were unlocked prior. So nobody is going to ask you to use the second Gargoyle or the Dragon, for example, in the Stephen Baker quest book. But none of those extra minis would be required in the Game System, KK or ROTWL remakes either. In the classic game each expansion only assumed you had the game system, they didn't assume you had any of the other expansions, though in this case you either had EVERYTHING or just the game system. After the game goes into retail, then I guess we'll see what their plan is.

My guess is that you won't get Ragnar, Witch Lord, "Mentor" ... and the "bonus" Heroes will only be available if you buy at least the Game System through the Hasbro pulse website. As for the rest, who can say yet. Ideally buying the "Mythic" set would get you all of them (minus the above three figures). It would be nice if they'd clarify that.

But please, don't pay some scalper $300 to get the full set later this year. If you are patient, I bet you'll be able to get everything or almost everything at a much more reasonable price. If I'm wrong then Hasbro really has no clue what they're doing.

Yes, extra minis are fun and cool and you can use them to spark your own homebrew adventures. Because lets be real, Sir Ragnar is used ONCE. The Witch Lord is used three, maybe four times? "Mentor" appears once in the Dark Company (which is not included in the remake) and was shoehorned into one "training quest" that we all saw for free here already but any figure could fulfill the same purpose. The Gargoyle is rarely used in the game as it is and can be another placeholder mini next to the Chaos Warlock (now referred to as the "Dread Sorcerer"). I'm talking actual game-play practical usage here, as opposed to just those who want to collect things.

Re: Why did/didn't you back fundraiser for new HeroQuest? po

Postby iKarith » April 7th, 2021, 10:10 am

Oh, the only thing a scalper is getting from me is laughed at.

I'd have liked Ragnar, but I've got a mini that'll suffice. It's one of those prepaints. For a one-off, it does the job, and as I have yet to attempt to learn to paint at all with my less than amazing vision, it's actually the only figure I have painted. I've always assumed the Chaos Sorcerer was INTENDED TO BE the Witch Lord, so if "Dread Sorcerer" is in the box (and it is), then … taken care of.

I wouldn't mind a Mentor mini, and I have spent far more time than is probably worth it looking for a suitable stand-in. I'd also like a Morcar and an Emperor Magnus, actually. I've got plans for all three. Absolutely NOT canon plans, but as HQ exists in a weird universe now that is neither Warhammer nor D&D and everything must be changed … I figure that we'll be rescuing Sir Fred in the second quest for Emperor Jim, and our mentor … Mentor will have guided us to become Champions of the empire defending it from the Dread dreadedness of the Dread Wizard Susan, WHO PREFERS TO BE CALLED MORCAR DAMMIT! (The lot of you are old enough to see what I did there…)

I figure at some point, our intrepid heroes will be forced to fight off a horde of monsters to evacuate the royal family through the catacombs beneath his castle with greenskins pouring in the tunnel after a few turns and Morcar's magic animating the dead ahead of you. Escort mission times four! The emperor and his son can fight well enough, but the Empress has neither armor nor skill with a blade. Let's say she's got some healing arts, a keen eye, and can disarm (or rather, help avoid) any "traps" you may find as well as any dwarf. In fact, maybe she can detect some he couldn't—though I won't be telling the players that! The emperor's daughter is too young to fight, but … will have a sense that should not be ignored.

And the whole thing will have been a diversion while Morcar tried to break a seal … a seal that you can't strengthen. Mentor can, but it'll take time, and you've got to fight your way to the place to do it (with his help, which will be very useful!) … until you get there and have to fight off large numbers of critters until he does what he must. The enemies will keep coming until then, from multiple directions. When Mentor has repaired the damaged seal, well, the heroes will find out what help Mentor may be to them then. He might be able to destroy all remaining monsters, ending the quest right there. I wouldn't count on it, though.

There has been no confirmation or indication of any kind from Hasbro that this reboot "HasbroQuest" will ever see retail shelves (beyond specialty game stores who perhaps pledged for a few to resale, but would balk at full price when they are used to getting games from suppliers at wholesale costs) so anybody who didn't pledge missed the boat and is totally out of luck or will be forced to pay resellers on eBay. Haslab products typically are exclusives only available through Haslab and are never then offered later for sale by retailers; I would be very surprised if they changed that policy (they never have yet despite similar pleas from all kinds of Haslab products fans)

While we certainly hope that they would sell HQ as a brand in stores and continue to support it with new products in the future, I believe it was a one-off fundraiser and will not be available to purchase beyond the original pledge purchases.

Oh really? That is a really crappy situation then. It will be a rarer collectible than classic HQ then!

Still, why would they bother having a separate "pulse exclusive" apart from a limited pledger exclusive? That sounds like you can special order it (without the limited figures) in the future from the website even after the pledgers get theirs. But an official clarification would be welcome...

Hopefully more people will be able to buy it once it goes into production. I don't think it would make sense for Hasboro to create the moulds for the minis and just throw them away right? They did the Pulse campaign to ensure their investment was returned, so I'd be very willing to bet that this will be available for purchase at some point after the initial release

Seriously though $150 + $30 shipping to get the extra minis plus KK & ROTWL is a bargain. However, you could get the original classic GS for about $175 (if you are patient, if you are impatient, prepare to pay whatever the seller wants you to pay) and the expansions are about $70-80 each. I am not talking in shrink wrap, I'm talking in used condition but fully serviceable.

Now the new quest books might turn out to be mediocre, we have no idea. So if you didn't get this set, don't despair. Any new rules will be shared with the community soon enough and so all you'd be missing out on is an "official release." Most of us are saying it is close but no cigar in terms of being an "improvement." You can get a quad fold board with 1 inch squares for about $45 if that's all you want, and while you wouldn't get the all plastic furniture, many very close examples are already available from Reaper Bones and Dungeon Decor or even WizKidz.

I wouldn't be shocked if you started to see the new material redone in the classic style whether EU or NA, as is the Inn's long tradition, eventually.

So yeah, before you pay that ebay scalper your $300, remember that more than likely you WILL be able to buy it through the Hasbro website, if nothing else, in 2022, even if it never touches the shelves of any retail store or specialty game shop.

Do I have irrefutable proof of this? No, I'm making a logical deduction based on the verbiage they've used so far. If they have never ever done this before, then I guess there's not much chance for hope, but who knows. Do you really need THIS particular set, right away? Hopefully waiting a few more months, would be a reasonable thing to do, if it would end up saving you possibly half the price! Imagine spending a couple bucks on gas to drive to some obscure game store to get it, rather than paying for shipping!

But, if you think the Orc Bard figure is really worth $100, go ahead and get her from that other kickstarter. Better to fund a project like that than to line the pockets of some opportunist non-fan! :2cents:
