Haha, look at this mini HeroQuest copy, Dungeon Forge - In My Pocket:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/18 ... my-pocket/
Like many HQ copies, it is in Spanish. For about $40 you get quite a lot of stuff, even if it is all tiny, and you don't get enough copies of everything for a full pint-sized HQ quest. I can't tell if the textured box has enough squares for a proper map, but you'd definitely be short (no pun intended) of doors and other furniture.

By a first glance it looks okay...

But playing modular HQ with MINI stuff like that seems like a bad idea.
No magnets, click-system or anything... Seems too fiddly...

....plus, i don't know anywhere where you can get additional 15mm models. gotcha!

Spanish company or not; I don't care.
But changing the scale from the industry standard seems to be a good way to lose customers - on the other hand, the few you have are really glued to you. :D

For what it's worth...

I'm a Dungeon Saga backer big time. Core set, all 3.5 expansions, acrylic counters, extra dice, etc. They have an interesting product, had all their ducks in a row, had a legal difficulty with one promo mini, which was then pulled and replaced, and have communicated exceptionally well with the supporters, including previews.

The HQ25 project, I was interested in, and would have backed. However, they had poor communication - often contradicting themselevs and making little sense, no previews, and untold legal difficulties. I don't trust them as far as I can throw them. I *may* order a copy *if* it ever gets released. There where ways and means for creative idenviduals to effectively clone HQ, and release it as a set "inspired by" the original HQ. They did not use this route.

Dungeon Saga attracted my interest, but the deal breaker for me was the dice-comparison mechanic that requires spotting and comparing dice results every attack. Still, lots of nice things going on for that game.

Grossey wrote:I'm surprised to see that there aren't more supporters of the new HQ25 game. I feel that if anyone should get royalties from the "success" of HQ25, it is Stephen Baker the developer of the game. When Milton Bradley let the rights of the game (or the game's name) in 1995, Hasbro lost all claims for any future product. Games Workshop still retains rights to all of the copy-writable monsters and references to the Warhammer IP. Would people be upset if GW released an updated version of Advanced Heroquest?

I risked joining the crowd funding and am hopeful it will yet pan out. I love the mini previews, as the components are what sold me. I haven't posted too much as I'm in wait-and-see mode.

I don't think Stephen Baker is entitled to royalties, unfortunately. He was an employee of Milton Bradley and pitched the game to that company as part of his job. That made the work MB company property, so that should set the copyright of the work today in Hasbro's domain (owner of MB.) Don't feel he got a bad deal, however. Though he left MB, he has returned to Hasbro and is senior design director in process development.

Grossey wrote:...All in all, it is a good time to be a fan of Heroquest. More is better, right? I'm excited to get my Twisting Catacombs classic set.

Agreed. In fact, I want more, still. If only Hasbro would put out their own HQ remake.

Grossey wrote:...By the way, I was hoping there would be somebody on the boards that was excited as I am about HQ25 coming out. Do you think a forum post about HQ25 game progress will be well received? Or, will the disdain for the project keep it from creating any buzz or excitement for HQ.

Well, it should probably work out like this topic, more or less, until the negative issues resolve or not. I'd post in Board index ‹ Fantasy Gaming Rooms ‹ Other Fantasy Games Area ‹ Other Games Room . Dungeon Saga has a topic, but a Heroquest 25th Anniversary topic has yet to be opened. Opening a topic now wouldn't be premature, but if you don't, I'll likely do so should the game materialize.

Postby sorcerersapprentice » September 28th, 2015, 2:19 am

I'm arriving late to the party, but it seems to me the Spanish troupe had good intentions, intended to make a quality, exciting revision to Heroquest and made one major mistake, marketing it as an official Heroquest product.

I'm not familiar with Dungeon saga, but I will say that there is more than enough content created by long-time fans who frequent this circuit to expand HQ indefinitely. I for one intend to add my own (thousands) of expansions as time goes by but there's no reason fans need to rely on others to get the new gear they need - there are some extraordinarily talented individuals here as evident by the discussion of code, the innovation of tables, of software, of 3d design, of graphic artists, system revisionists and so on...

A HQ25 or even HQ26, 27, 28 could easily be launched and achieved through the consolidation of a few people here who I believe have the requisite skills to produce one. There's certainly no limit to imagination.

Just don't call it HQ ;)

I'm not a fan of modern, dynamic poses and Citadel/GW and most other companies are all about modern, dynamic poses and CAD these days.
