The only advantage of finding it before would be handing the Heroes a card that said Dragon blade, + 2 AD when used against dragons. Not showing them your dragon miniature and not even mentioning that they exist.

This way you have a spiffy dragon slayer sword or whatever weapon but it is just a normal weapon in all other encounters and after the mission it is a basic item as the dragon it is enchanted to harm is now dead. {perhaps award the hero who gets killing blow with a permanent 2 extra dice against all dragons with that particular weapon. Perhaps it is a psychosomatic thing, anyone else gets zero extra with the weapon.}

I like this but how about a dragon shield made from it's scales, protects the user from its breath. So find dragon sword early quest to tease of dragon. Then discover dragon use sword but still it's too powerful, forced to retreat, find out about dragon skin shields, re-quest for that, back to lair, defeat dragon.

The enchantment idea is still better though.

Re: Why dragon are so hard...

This whole entire thread is simply amazing. I just found this thread after I posted a generic Dragon Monster card, thanks to whitebeard (viewtopic.php?f=36&t=3080). I posted that I have the dragon from the Dragon Strike board game and made several cards before I seen this thread. I was thinking along the lines of the dragon having a breath weapon equal to the Firestorm Chaos spell and can cast the Fear Chaos spell and the Sleep Chaos spell along with his normal physical attack. And one can always take the idea of the "Dragon Slayer" sword and "Dragon Shield" and have those items in reserve depending on the level and equipment of the party. You can always make several low level dragon Monster cards depending on the party level to fight with other Monsters in a Quest and have the main boss dragon card too. Man, I love HQ, you can do so much with it, so many different options you can explore because the game is written so well.

I just have to laugh that hard, honestly. I started this thread more as a goof than anything,
just posting pictures of how CRAZY it would be to really go up against a dragon, if they were
real and anything like what we see in fantasy literature. I can't believe this thread now has
5 pages, and at least one or two people have said how wonderful they think the thread is.

Glad I could start something so great. I really didn't mean to.

Apologies for resurrecting this topic if everyone else was done with it, and I don't mean to state the obvious, but I didn't see anyone else mention it here: What about the dragon in ChaosOrc's Dwarf Quest Pack, Dragon's Lair? http://north-american.yeoldeinn.com/downloads/quests/chaosorc-dragons-lair.pdf
The figure is designated as taking up two spaces (and Dragon Strike's dragon is the recommended figure), so it's not as huge as I think some of you want the dragons to be, but still larger than the heroes. And I thought it seemed pretty tough but still beatable.
Stats:
Movement - 6
Attack - 6
Defend - 6
BP - 8
MP - 5
Spells: Flame, Poison, Summon Undead, Rust
And can only be harmed with a weapon picked up earlier in the quest pack, the Great Axe, which can only be used by the Dwarf and has 5 combat dice.
I thought this seemed like a pretty well balanced Quest Boss and :2cents: that whole quest pack looks pretty fun to me. I've been hoping one of my players would build up a strong dwarf so that we could give it a go.

:D That's quite a Baby dragon.... 50mm? hahaha

@Torilen, i think your thread deserves to be called great, as it made dealing with a dragon on my HQ Board just a little bit more possible.

Heck, I'm thinking about heading over to the gaming table tile thread and pulling that one out of the mothballs.
Been a while since I had a good laugh.
