After raiding this place for tons of new materials I found that I had way too many tiles and quest books to fit in the box I've had since I was 9, which was falling to bits anyway.
Since it was close to Xmas I waiting until the inevitable deluge of left over boxes, and chose one to form the basis of my new hq box. It was a rather massive box left over from a train set my son had for Xmas from his granny. It had one of those flap lids that opens up on the largest side, rather than at the edges, and this suited my purposes.
I whacked a few coats of glossy black paint over the whole thing then glued the salvageable bits from my original hq box to the new box, covering all sides.
It actually looks pretty good. The only thing that stops it from being transported easily is the sheer weight of the stuff inside :o

Pictures or it did not happen.

I like the HeroChest http://forum.yeoldeinn.com/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=2782... but you will need to add foam for rattle free transport.

I have admired your tool chest approach, Whitebeard. I have a collection of naval miniatures in something similar, which works nicely but is a bit heavy. My main concern with that is that it is not big enough to hold the board. I definitely want to have the board and preferably the original box in whatever transport solution i end up with.

Thank you. I also find it on the heavy side, but my main issue with transport (even just up and down the stairs home), is the shifting of all on my minis and Twisting Catacombs painted elements. I would not put it in my car until I had this solved. I saved a bunch of foam to do this, but I found that I suck at cutting foam!! And it will restrict the number of minis I can fit in a drawer. And it will be a fairly permanent arrangement and I'm always adding "one more thing" to my collection.

I believe these are all issues you will need to consider as well. Even though this tool chest will not meet your needs.

I just got a 3D printer (to play with my son this summer) and I think thinly printed drawer dividers are in my future. I could coat them in felt, but I think restricting the distance over which models can shift and collide will get me where I want to go. A modular approach to drawer partitions will also give me the flexibility to rearrange everything. I'm thinking trays of regular size increments, so I could rapidly swap configurations depending on what game / campaign I was supporting.

It looks to me like you just need to get hold of some large sheets of cardboard and fold your own box. You may also be able to enhance the storage of the original HQ box by adding a tall divider type structure such that the original box is 1.5 to 2x as tall. I did this with foam board for my WHQ Silver Tower box and it works very nicely.

I appologize if I'm repeating myself here:
Once you get to the point of wanting a custom box to store everything, there is a good chance you have re-printed the board. Many of us have larger boards, and others have modular pieces, or rollable mats... the result is that there are even fewer options where people want what you want. I look forward to seeing what you come up with! Please post pictures of your solution.
