Interesting enough, I consider myself quite open, so for example I would have no problem putting old world stuff onto the Heroquest Board or invent new monsters and storyline.

Nevertheless, I had to look at that list up there, and I was not able to vote for more than one thing.

The White Dwarf Quest is not good enough, the Marvel Winter Special is cool but wasn't sold enough, I don't know the Japanese version, and so on and so forth. Some of those are also clearly fanon.

I would have Problems accepting Dave Morris Novel as Canon, but not Goblin Kings Mage of the Mirror. Why that? Don't know, it's a matter of feeling.

Zargon for me he is clearly not dead, also Morcar is not dead. And here my personal Fanon says they both exist. :D

I'm not that stupid, thank you. Rather wanted to join in on your sarcasm, as well as make it's background more obvious to everyone.
Have a look ;)

I've a stack of WFRP books that say otherwise.

There where many points of similaritym but they where by no means identical.

The only strong links to Warhammer are the reused the map from WFRP, the place-name Karak Varn, an overview of dwarven history, and the Fimir existing.

Weak links between the settings are the existence of an Emperor, an Empire, and the powers of Chaos, plus the re-used artwork.

Marked differences are the history of Morcar (though some small similarities to Morkar if WFB), Rogar and his companions, etc; & the way magic works (more akin to Jack Vance than Warhammer).

Realistically, it's a generic fantasy world, with bits of Warhammer flavout thrown in as they where working with GW and had the art & sculpts available. Thus where I have added bits of Warhammer lore into my HQ game (skaven, trolls, daemons), I added them in broad strokes only, much like the Emperor and the Fimir are.

So.... I read through all of this and.... I'd like to know where if anywhere, there's a history or backstory/description of this HQ world/setting for me to read.

No, there isn't.

Well... that sucks.
So, I've got an old world map, a fan map, and whatever lore can be gleamed from various quests and add-on material?

Has any fan done anything like compiled it all in one wiki essentially? Would any fans want to collaborate on such a task? (Not asking you specifically if you think they would. Just putting the idea out there for anyone that reads this thread.)

Re: HeroQuest canon?

Postby Jade » August 10th, 2017, 10:14 pm

So, this is how I feel:

Hardest Canon
Core Game
KK
RotWL

Hard Canon

Images from any of the above
Other English expansions

Moderate Canon
WFRP 1st
WFB 3rd
White Dwarf Material

Soft Canon
Novels
Warhammer Quest
Other Published Quests

I'm not sure what to do with Advanced HeroQuest, since I've never read or played it, but I'm inclined to stick it under "Moderate Canon". I know nothing of the Marvel special.

Because HQ clearly takes place in the WFB 3rd / WFRP 1st world, I'm inclined to consider WFRP and WFB canon to HQ the exact same way that HQ and WFRP can be considered canon for WFB, and HQ and WFB can be considered canon for WFRP. It's all connected.

Anything officially licensed by the owner to say HeroQuest is "canon". They saw it, they proofread it, they approved it, they licensed it. Warhammer is a different game, just similar because of the GW involvement with HQ. They had names and pictures available so they used some. If something was an "official HQ" release then I will accept it. Contradictions and all.
