I'm not a hater at all. I just think the original HeroQuest game is pretty close to perfect for me personally. I love it, wouldn't change it and really dont want or need anything else than what I already own. HQ25 is old news and is shady. I've always thought they were a get rich quick thing. Dungeon Saga looks good and I will probably pick up a copy when it hits the shelves, maybe two if its just as good as HQ.

I would definitely get HQ25 if it became available. I'd never heard of Dungeon Saga until today. It looks good and I would probably buy it too. I have bought many dungeon crawl games over the years and none have come close to original HQ. It's nice to see how they work, and play a few games if they are any good (Dragon Srike, Bluurrgghh!), but I have always, always come back to HQ.

Thing with Dungeon Saga I noticed I didn't like is the tiles you put on the small dungeon board like the doors and skeleton piles, looks like they would be a pain in the butt to keep on there. I don't know, maybe I am just being picky. I would like to grab those minis though.

25th Anniversary Edition is one of the reasons I signed up for this forum. I just found out about it last night and looked into the history of it. From what it sounds like, they still do not have any legal ability to make this game anywhere, in any country. I would love it if they got the rights, but by the same token, I think of it this way. I play Heroquest because I love it. However, I also find myself wanting to change the rules so that it is a little more playable and challenging as a now older player. I don't just mean new villains and quests, I also mean enemies attacking diagonally and things like that. I am a rule stickler and I love them, but I also want a quality experience. Unless 25th had a set of phenomenal updates that made it constantly engaging, I am better off using my dungeons and dragons tiles with the hero quests figures to just make my own levels all the time and adjust the rules as I see fit.

HeroQuest was designed to do exactly this. The rules for your quest override the rules for cards, override the rules in the book, etc. What has been stopping you from creating new monsters, and quests with new rules? The expansions packs do exactly this, so can you. This forum is filled with all kinds of things for you to use.

Just as heroes can attack diagonally with the right weapons, so can your monsters. Just arm your goblins and orcs with spears. Better yet, adopt a swarm tactic (combat rule) which allows a mass of goblins to overwhelm a hero. How about "each square the hero defends from he defends with one fewer defend die." So if you are caught out in the open by a goblin swarm, things can get bad in a hurry. But a force in a narrow tunnel is manageable. This introduces a new type of "trapped" room where the monsters jump out of hiding when the first room search is done (that cupboard is actually a door to the next room and goblins jump out like from a clown car). They block the door but do not attack until Zargon's turn.

I believe there is some kind of group attack rule for kobolds in the "other" unreleased 25th anniversary being worked on this site. Check it out.

You do not need new tiles to create new levels. There are MANY new exciting quest packs here and most use the basic game system. And if you are looking for something new, there are a few game boards posted here that you can download and print.
Has resigned from the forum and would delete his account if he could.

Every creative person has the right to profit from their hard work, and the purpose of copyright is to ensure that they aren't cheated out of what they've earned. If I publish a book, and someone else with a better understanding of marketing strategies copies it and makes a fortune off of it without my permission, that's unfair to me because I'm the one who wrote the book. I should get something for all the work I put into my legacy, and it's my right to allow my family to benefit as well.

Copyright becomes a problem when it's abused by greedy corporations and soulless lawyers. It was invented to keep people from stealing my movie and hosting it on youtube for free (or worse, selling it and stealing credit). It was not invented to put internet reviewers out of a job over a measly 60 seconds of random footage, but some companies try to use it that way to keep a counter-productive stranglehold on their properties. It sucks, but everything has a good and bad side, and the "copyright = bogus" maxim is a close-minded and childishly oversimplified way of looking at things. It's an outlook commonly adopted by uncreative consumers with a weird sense of entitlement.

What I don't get is if Hasbro and Game Workshop went to court, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to protect their HQ copyright, why would Hasbro/Game Workshop not do something with it right now? Obviously someone at Hasbro/Game Workshop realized money is still to be made with the HQ brand and lots of it or they wouldn't have went to war to defend it. I just don't get it.

Companies have a hoarder mentality when it comes to copyrights. Even if they're not doing anything with it, they'll fight anyone else who tries, because that would be money changing hands that doesn't end up in their pockets, and they can't have that. And don't even talk to them about the public domain...

Think I have false hope placed in Hasbro releasing an updated HQ is all. :(
