I play NA rules. I simply let the game play itself. I rarely, if at all, change anything from the original quest books. By the third or fourth quest, a group will get cocky, especially if they have pushed through fairly easy. Eventually they will push their luck, split up, search too many rooms too fast, try something crazy that doesn't work and one of them will get whacked. I don't think before the quest, "What can I do to kill these guys?", yes the idea is to kill them, but on the flip side, I want everyone to have fun, including myself. It's not fun at all if you modify the quests to kill a player by the second room, then he or she is reduced to watching t.v. while the rest of the group continues on having fun. If a player does something stupid only to end up dead, so be it. I believe HQ and all the expansions, as a whole, is very balanced if you play every quest in order from start to finish. The Artifact distribution, wondering monsters, bosses are well placed for the most part and I've never felt the need to change or modify anything personally.

Wondering monster should be an actual thing, in the treasure deck. The heroes get to attack instead of the monster. :)
