Round bases all the way for me, even for games that play of hexagons (just mark the front). I like Reaper's non-bevelled bases, especially since they can be flipped so that you can put in a base-included model and just putty up the rest so that the model is at the exact right height on the base. I've done it to a few HQ models. My exception to round bases are the square bases needed for older editions of Warhammer since I'm not going to rebase all of them on the off-chance I might use one in a dungeon crawl.

My bases are nearly all 25mm except for a few larger creatures, but I have been tempted to get the 20mm round bases for a smaller models just so that there is less empty space on the base.

There's even an "oval" style that is like the longer (two square monster.. two circle monster?) bases, but nicely rounded off. I guess the "spinning around"
trick won't work with these though.

All said, if you don't want to have to carve into them (a few chops with a razor blade is all it takes), the pre-made bases are dandy, if the price is right.

How much are they? Are they are flexible plastic, very stiff, or in between?

Lots of options but it looks like... a pack of 8 will run you about 30 cents per cap on Amazon. Pack of 70, about 10 cents each. Pack of 500 runs about 7 cents apiece. Most sets have free shipping.

I'm not an expert on types of plastic, but the closest thing I can compare it to are the white plastic caps (the "tear open seal" kind) on Formula P3 Paint bottles... maybe a tiny bit softer. Not as hard as the white bottle tops on a container of AppleBarrel or FolkArt acrylic paint. There were two types of caps in the packs I ordered.. most were of this type, but there were one or two that were a little bit softer than that. You can flex them pretty easily, cut them very easily with a metal blade, and if you press hard you can scratch them with a fingernail. They're not rubbery like a Reaper bones mini, it's firm plastic that's not hard like the stuff the original HQ minis were made of.

Between the black and white ones, the black ones tend to smell like recycled plastic (painting seems to eliminate this charcoaly smell) and the few "softer" versions only appeared in the white packs. The white ones are a little less common, and tend to be a few cents more each. I just look around for the best deal.

Neato.... what are the measurements on those? Remove the little bevel (that the NA version lacks) and it'd be a perfect match...

Thanks for sharing. Those look great! I'll have to check in to pricing for some of my proxy miniatures who I wish had the same size base as the originals.
