US Instruction Booklet wrote: Each skull rolled is considered a hit, resulting in 1 Body Point of damage against the monster. If hit, the monster immediately defends by rolling its Defend Dice.

The wording is the same for heroes, substituting the word Hero for the word monster.
A second attack means a separate roll and a chance for a second 'hit', not a chance for strengthening the previous 'hit'. Does one get to defend against multiple attackers individually?, or is he helpless once he has defended against the first?

I'm using the black shield as skulls/white shields for legend abilities for the barbarian and dwarf so it wouldn't get lost in the rules, it should be easy to remember because it's their ultimate skills. I'm also using it on a couple of artefacts, I think that works well. It's stackable as well, so a barbarian legand with a sword that attacks on black shields as well as skulls would attack with two skulls for every black shield rolled.

It's from one of the US expansions and it's talking about one character attacking twice with the orcs bane. The orc only defends the first attackand I think both attacks have to be against the same orc, so the second attack is never defended.

I just reread the elf and barb qp's and all I could find regarding the issue is this:
"Barbarian Quest Pack" "The Frozen Horror" pg. 4, heading 5. Rules Clarification wrote:Multiple Attacks: A Hero rolls defend dice once for each attacking monster. For example, a Hero attacked by 3 Zombies gets 3 separate defend rolls. A Hero attacked by a monster with multiple attacks (such as the Polar Warbear) however, gets only 1 defend roll against that monster per turn, no matter how many of the monster's attacks are directed at the Hero.

If you modify this rule by reversing the roles, then you are creating a house rule. This is fine, but it is not accordant to the core game rules. Please someone show me where it is written that this applies when the roles are reversed. I will graciously stand corrected. :)

Back on topic, another way to go could be a certain weapon ONLY hits on black shields (or white shields).
It's not optimal, but better than mixing two types in the same attack.

Example - Rapier:
throw 5 dice in an attack, but instead of rolling skulls you must roll white shields to score a hit.

I have a fear of players forgetting to look out for the odd black shield in a normal attack.
This way they only have to look out for one thing.
It doesn't seem like a big thing, but after playing a while you tend to suddenly be less wary of all kinds of small special rules... in my experience at least...

The strength of the weapon 'orcs Bane' is a second attack in certain situations. For example.
This being apart from +1D or -1D I felt I was contributing to the topic being discussed. I did not intend to derail, and still don't think I was, but if you don't want my input, fine.

Sajungzak, it is very appreciated! In fact, there is a huge difference. If you could defend the second attack of Orc Bane, it is a small nice bonus. If you can't defemd the second attack, it is quite strong. I would estimate, stronger than an additional dice.

There are rules here and there, but before i start interpreting and cross referencing, i would rather write a house rule to be honest. :D

Thank you Anderas.
I like to play as vanilla as I can. I know I've misinterpreted rules before (I thought the treasure deck was to be shuffled before the first search only, bad cards returned to the bottom) and it's important for me to get it right.
This could effect play in any quest, with the "heroic brew." I hope I haven't been playing it wrong all along, again! But I want to know if I am. I was really hoping someone knew where this rule was.
It doesn't seem to be in the GS , EQP, or BQP. I guess I will have to search KK, RotWL, AtOH, and WoM myself to be sure.
I will let you know what I find, so others will know too if they are playing it wrong differently.
(Not that there's anything wrong with that!) :)

*edit* Well that didn't take as long as I thought. All I found was the magic dagger, which only applies to itself, and can only be used once anyway.
So... it seems I've already quoted all relative material, and, as Zargon, I will continue to defend against multiple attacks respectively.
B T W, the Frozen Horror rules regarding monsters with multiple attacks really only applies to those quests, (*edit* specifically, the quests containing those monsters, as no other monsters have such an ability) right? Seems to me they should've just included it on the monster cards or in the quest notes to avoid any confusion. (or the heroes feeling gypped)

Well, that's a good question.
On one hand, the rules for heroes and monsters are generally the same. It would be logical to apply a certain rule to both.
It would also make sense for a later expansion to elaborate on certain rules/situations the base set didn't address, thus applying to the entire game.

On the other hand those are all presumptions. Unless a rule explicitly states to apply to other things, it only applies to the things it's specifically states to apply to.

And then on the third hand... HQ is basically a mess when it comes to rules...

Seems that way! Id agree, that, to be fair, the rules should work both ways, if only the original instruction booklet didn't spell it out word for word both ways. They wrote it twice, once for monsters, and once for heroes. Then in BQP, it is only one way.
I think they want the Barb to die at least once, and be forced to start fresh. Maybe...
Well, now I am getting off topic.

In Games, in opposite to the reality, everything is forbidden except the things that are in the rules.

Nevertheless, I am searching for a good method to set up some house rules. I would have no problem stating in the house rules that this weapon works the one or the other way, depending on what I want to achieve.

What do you think about giving a certain equipment permanent bonuses? Like, "this armour gives you 2 defend dices and the first skull roll of your enemy is ignored"?
It is stronger than two dices.
