First, to Daedalus! (loved the can of worms, by the way)
Daedalus wrote:I don't agree that the difference between the EU and NA editions is similar to the Spanish edition. The treatment of Morcar and Zargon rearranges the fluff quite a bit. The necessity of new rules makes it more of a true edition change than the adding of monster Body Points or altered treasure searches. Of course, we need to see those rules to know just how different Gamezone and its Spanish-fan collaborators plan to make HQ 25th.
This is a fair point; unless the rules are only somewhat revised and not in entirety, then you're absolutely correct in that it's not the same difference. I hadn't considered the line between a revision and a full-blown ' new edition' release. It is my hope that they offer us two sets of rules: Basic and Advanced, the latter being the 'new edition' while the former remaining within the capacity of the classic ruleset.
Daedalus wrote:I believe Spanish HQ fans are collaborating in the houseruling of the Spanish Anniversary edition. So, basically they are doing the same thing we are doing here, in that respect. I see the difference is that by producing the game for the market with the trademark of HeroQuest, Gamezone is claiming itself as an official remake. That infers rules that are canon, which no one here claims in their own houserule set.
This is an interesting perspective that
perfectly answers my first question (difference between hobbyists v. professionals). Also, as much as I love HQ and despite the fact that my online presence is far too high, I've never participated in a community such as this. So it never crossed my mind that the Spanish edition of HQ could itself influence things, or that the Spanish community of HeroQuest fans might be having their own little gathering such as this.
Thank you for the reply! Very well thought out

On to JasonMCM!
JasonMCM wrote:I would not mess up the board by making the center room some funky non rectangular thing
When I first read this, I was like "Whaa? That's not right..." Then I checked. How the hell did I not notice that?! That really irks me. Like, this is the first time I've been actually, truly disappointed in something about the campaign. I'm an optimist and often give the benefit of the doubt, but this is simply unnecessary.
JasonMCM wrote:I would keep the PG feel of the original. No sex, no gore, no accidental dismemberment rules, and I would keep the artwork similar
Could not agree more. Just because they're introducing female models does not mean they have to be slathered in sex appeal. If it were a Succubus whose very identity is lust and temptation, then sure, I can get behind that but otherwise, fan service annoys me to no end.
JasonMCM wrote:I would not try to one up the original game with pointless miniatures, this includes multiple poses for each monster type
Finally something we can
disagree on!

I am all for dynamic miniatures with varying weapons and appearances. First, it makes the game look more alive on the table, and second it makes the game more immersive when you can label particular models as powered up versions, henchmen, etc.
And yea the Primordial thing is unusual for sure. I know that there are spells, then there are
primordial spells that are more powerful? Maybe Primordial Chaos things are
more Chaos-y? haha
Thanks for the reply!
Thantos!
(Thank you for the welcome, sir!)
You pretty much hit the nail on the head for a best-case, hypothetical release. I've gotta say that grammar is always a huge red flag to me when looking at promotion materials, or product literature, especially on brand websites. But, I can bend a little if English isn't their first language as in GZ's case. It seemed obvious at the time that the Kickstarter campaign was run through translation software, but it has since improved a great deal. I think they realized that with the rapid-exposure nature of Kickstarter, you can't cut corners and things can snowball pretty quickly either for or against a campaign.
Thantos wrote:GZ ballsed this one in my opinion, its not legal (taking to another countries crowd funding site to avoid a lawsuit since the company with legal rights cant afford an overseas lawsuit with you, is not ethical!!),
What really sucks about this part of the story, is that you're right - the means were definitely "ethically questionable" at best. I have been so conflicted about this since the beginning - What I find so disappointing about it is that they've been working so hard on this project, that if it were any other situation and it was on the level from the get-go, it would be completely amazing. But instead, the passion they have for the project is
tainted. Maybe I'm having a (rare) moment of naivety, but I do believe that their intentions are sincere in that they want to do this for
the community. I feel as though they decided that they wanted to do this thing, come hell or high water, but then very,
very, quickly found themselves in way over their heads. There is no question that initially, it was poorly executed but I truly don't believe it is a scam of any kind, as they appear to have put far too much effort into it if it were. Now, hopefully I won't have eat those words in the future! (although, I don't doubt that they'll be quoted in some forthcoming replies...

)
Also, holy crap those sculpts by Ampersand are AMAZING!! Thank you so much for sharing that! Those are exactly what I had in mind when thinking of updated designs while keeping the classic motif in consideration. What's their story? And do you have any links or other information regarding their work? I need MOAR. I make wargaming terrain and scenery and after a lull recently, am looking to get back into it and learning how to properly sculpt miniatures. Currently I can only sculpt environment pieces with minimal competency lol (here's an
imgur album of a Blood Bowl pitch I made for a friend - there might be other pictures of a few terrain piece in there somewhere) I'm pretty proud of it - the album has nearly 1.4 million views!
To Wolfie907, I researched Lanzanos for weeks before I bit the bullet, so I hear you there. I looked into nearly 100 projects and I have to say, my Spanish has greatly improved because of it haha! I couldn't find anything really negative about Lanzanos aside from the run-of-the-mill criticism that all crowdfunding platforms enjoy. Regardless, I paused for a good while before hitting that pledge button with less than an hour to go in the campaign.
Okay! So this was a nice evening spent replying to you fine folks - some light has been shed on my ravenous optimism so please go easy on me in your replies

Happy Questing!

PS. It's so nice to have an actual civil discussion about such a hot-button topic. I'm really enjoying this forum, so thanks!
