If I'd ever put on music during HQ, I'd pick Enya and my GuildWars soundtrack. I also remember having downloaded a HeroQuest soundtrack somewhere. I have them on my HDD, but can't remember where I got them... I think it was here somewhere to be honest.

Beernut often puts on his disc of "the Matrix" - it has exciting music on it if not entirely the right timeframe...
He also puts on Black Sabbath - especially the title piece "What is THIS that stands before me...figure in BLACK which points at meeeee...." wooo. Good stuff.

Also I took all the music off my original Diablo Disc and use that sometimes.
I also found the midi music to "Ghouls 'n' Ghosts", while dated, does stick in my head too.
"I will raise your dead body as an undead skeleton. Then I will make it do unspeakable acts. Like taking a shower." - El Flesh.

Last time I played, we just threw on a couple of Lord of the Rings soundtracks. Some of the suggestions in this thread are much better... ;)

On a related note, am I the only person who looks at the battle with Bellthor (in Return of the Witch Lord) and immediately hears the boss music from The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past?

Door slams, monster springs to life... it's old-school video game midi music time!

random 'music from the middle ages' found on internet. It sounds good, i'm gonna play that tonight.

Diablo Music, good call. Will try that to. Music is such an easy way to set the mood and is often over looked. I'm in the process of making a 4hour playlist, as that's the average time per quest for my group.

I used to play an echoing hall soundtrack with skittering feet and the random distant door shut/open. Very subtle heart beat in the far background. Also put wet earth next to a low set fan and blew that through the game area.

Even had a combat overlay I could turn on when a fight started - swords-shields- parrying.

Was good fun until my old pc croaked and took the files with it. Always been meaning to shop around SFX webstores and buy up a collection again.

I'd put the Red Sonja theme onto the list as well. Very Hero-Questy film.

But this one is absolutely my favorite tavern song.

I found a couple of new ones to add to the list.

1) Jim Guthrie's Sword & Sworcery soundtrack: http://jimguthrie.bandcamp.com/album/sword-sworcery-lp-the-ballad-of-the-space-babies

2) And a whole genre of music that's totally new to me, Dungeon Synth! Here's a recommended artist from band camp's listing, Lord Lovidicus - The Forgotten Ruins:

Album is free to download on the artist's Youtube page.

BONUS) Loads more Dungeon Synth on bandcamp: http://bandcamp.com/tag/dungeon-synth
