$500 isn't that expensive for a laser printer. I'm converting this to pound sterling and that's about £300, for a laser printer that's the a mid range printer. (they start at £70+ but go right up to the thousands) the reason they come so cheap is the thieving toner companies make their money on the toner. if the companies that sell the plastic go the same route, then yeah it will happen again. it might not. but its the same as anything, petrol in a car, electricity in your house even. you have no choice but to pay the price they ask if you want it. the only thing keeping prices down is competition.
the important thing to remember is that affordable, high quality 3d printing in your home is getting nearer to reality.
good luck to em!

$500 in 2009 money.

I bought toner from TonerDeals.com. Real good price. I had to return the first set of cartridges, because two didn't work. I had to return the second set, because one didn't work. I then got a refund.

That prosthetic arm link is cool. Good minds making good things, where profit isn't the motivation.
