ONLINE QUEST 5 RETURN OF THE WITCH QUEEN discussion

I opened this thread for main dicussion about this topic.

Today, during GenCon 2026, it has been revealed the new online quest created by Avalon HIll, "Return of the Witch Queen", which includes the re-appearance of some well known characters from the classics...

The quest story looks to take place after Wizards of Morcar expansion events, so it suggests that a fully new expansion may come sometime in the future! I even see it a great opportunity to link its story with the events told in First Light box.

I would like to remind that our legendary and historic member Phoenix (who is running some HeroQuest games in Avalon Hill's stand at today's GenCon, see here), published in 2008 a fanmade quest pack with same title as this new online quest... You may download it on his website here.

Do you think Avalon Hill has taken inspiration from this fanmade work to write the new quest?

In short: No. Kessandria and Skulmar are two of the big open ends the original Quest Packs had to offer. Avalon Hill knows that they will do best if they honor the legacy and work with it in new ways, just as they did with Ragnar and his expended storyline. Now they will do their next take on other fan favorites, and Kessandria is definitely up there.

Is this the first time this quest has been presented, or was it the same one (described as a "combination of first light and wizards of morcar") demoed at UK Games Expo? If so, I wonder if it was the same or updated in any way?

Are you sure about a 'new' quest was actually revealed during latest UK Expo to be played there?

I have never seen any proof of that, unfortunatelly. I even think Dread on the Horizon quest was not shown there either.

Please, anyone who visited the Avalon Hill exhibitor on UK Games Expo could give more light about it?

I'm very curious!

They played something... was it this one, maybe in a less developed form, or something else entirely? Reporters at the UK expo didn't seem to have much info, calling it a combination of WoM and First Light (which also describes Dread on the Horizon, somewhat; since the storyline ties into WoM but uses First Light assets... not that it required FL but that was what they used at both cons).
