I don't know what you mean, holy water was in our versions but not yours, it didn't get removed here.

I though the hysteria was still going in the early 90s, it was a long way away so I don't really know. We probably heard about it after it was over.

I still can't find GK's wondering monster anywhere online, that's far too funny a card to not exist any more.

Ah, my confusion. I thought you were saying that it was in the first US edition, but was somehow removed. As I don’t have that edition, I had to do some research. Yes, Holy Water was removed from the Treasure deck, but was reintroduced in RotWL as “Sacred Water.” Dunno why that happened, unless it was just MB deciding that kids from the largely Protestant US population wouldn’t know that “holy water” was a thing or what it was supposedly for except from horror movies (largely rated R). (Sure didn’t come up in Baptist Sunday School!) So probably not so much a Satanic Panic thing as “what the heck is that?” response from the American branch of MB. And for a product aimed at 10-14 year-olds it’s not an unreasonable expectation. Or it might have been that Catholics at the company objected.
The Satanic Panic itself was almost entirely among protestant fundamentalist groups, who don’t believe in the concept of holy water in the first place, so wouldn’t care about it.

Sure you were. You're seriously trying to equate your angry unhinged clearly far right rant of a post to my obviously tongue in cheek one, that's absolutely hilarious!

Mine was anti religion (could be seen as specifically anti christian I suppose) and anti USian (America is a continent) but I didn't say anything remotely political. I don't know why you're lying when it's right there for anyone to read.

Yea I just noticed that while making my new treasure cards with the card art from here, the potion of speed is missing too and they renamed the potion of resilience. Gun/Bible/Burger Quest gets funnier every time I look at it a little deeper. I can only assume no potion of speed because of their ridiculous war on drugs (how's that going? I swear if we found a new element for the periodic table they'd try to declare war on it), holy water was removed because christians there are especially insane, the nothing card would confuse them and resilience is far too long a word so they changed it to defence, and spelled it wrong.

On the opposite side of the coin, progressives love equality, so they can't have anyone being faster than someone else (Speed potion out), free stuff for everyone (Nothing out), They hate Christians (Holy water out) and they love to dumb everything down (resilience out) :p

Two sides to every coin.

I understand it's in the rules that you're not supposed to get political. Leftists haven't learned to laugh at themselves. But I see both of these as jokes. The War on drugs have been going on since the 70's between both political parties. I was disappointed with the removal of Holy Water, but this wasn't the only potion removed, Potion of Speed (Meth?). Do we have a reason why Bracers were left out of the North American version for political or religious reasons?

Wtf are you on about? I didn't bring up politics at all!

That was my point, speed is a drug so they removed it.

wallydubbs wrote:Do we have a reason why Bracers were left out of the North American version for political or religious reasons?
Bracers weren't left out of Burger Quest, they didn't show up (along with the cloak of protection) until 2nd edition.

The dishonesty must just be second nature to you. My post was clearly the one that touched a nerve, it caused you to attack people based on politics, which includes half the people in your own country! Again why even try to lie when the posts are here for anyone to read? You can't change reality be pretending it's different.

Sometimes a joke is lost on the hearer when they don’t “get it;” but sometimes they don’t “get it” because the joke isn’t actually funny. Sometimes which of these apply is open to interpretation.

And maybe we can all leave it at that.

Re: Please help me out of a quandary...

Postby Kurgan » March 28th, 2026, 9:14 pm

The quality of the material used for the First Light board is less than the other editions (and the hex fold nature of it means it's possible to screw up and do damage to it over time if you mess up after you're tired from a long session and putting things away). It has a "cleaner" look but some prefer the old craggy art style from earlier editions. The "boot tile" is a nice addition though (thanks Doug) and the caverns on the back give added possibilities (and a handful of quests use them, there's a slightly smaller version of the "Arena" from ATOH there too).

I print my own board. Keep in mind that the "square crowding" issue people bring up with regarding to the 2021/2022 set mostly has to do with the Abomination figures. And really you're going to have crowding no matter what unless you print a board with comically oversized squares (the "mythic" pose is much better, see also Spirit Queen's Torment/Prophecy of Telor sculpts).

Bottom line is that you can use all of the classic components on the new board and vice versa, just that if you have a bunch of little tiles lined up they will not be perfect if you're using the big tiles on the smaller board. small tiles underneath the new figures will be a little small. Room tiles are fine, but will lead to crowding if you're using modern pieces on vintage rooms. It's still doable in most quests though. Just a little fudge here or there nothing to truly immersion breaking since this is HQ, we're already using our imaginations heavily! The remake furniture is actually smaller in some cases than the classic furniture or more often the same size (the "Elven Furniture" in Mage of the Mirror remake and Rise of the Dread Moon is a sized a little larger and the furniture tiles in FL are the "exact" size they appear on Zargon's map).

In the end, I think the sets are pretty compatible. Playing with a mixture of UK core assets and remake bits isn't too bad, but sometimes an Artifact ("Quest Treasure" your edition called them) will be called for that you don't have. You'll have the ability to find a bit more gold per quest in theory and some of the prices are a little more forgiving. Overall it can work, but Zargon should review things to see compensate (as needed) for any unforeseen surprises.

PS: Allegedly, some weird guy in a big gray beard was handing out Treasure cards that had "Holy Water" and "Potion of Speed" on them. Allegedly... |_P
