Actually, the Dwarf got Veiled of Mist in so he could attack the Shaman... but now I'm starting to question that move... if perhaps the Cloak of Shadows should cancel out Veil of Mist, preventing the Dwarf from passing the goblin blockade.

Well the card says anyone in the Cloak of Shadows cannot attack, be attacked or cast spells; it doesn't say anything about spells passing through or being cancelled out.
In this situation, the Wizard opened the door, saw the Orc Shaman and cast Cloak of Shadows over him. The Orc Shaman moved out and Summoned the Goblins. The Wizard would then cast Veil of Mist on the Dwarf (neither of which were in the Cloak of Shadows when VoM was cast), so the Dwarf ran through the CoS, past the goblin and attacked the Shaman. It didn't occur to me, at the time, that Veil of Mist might be cancelled out once he entered the Cloak of Shadows.
The Elf moved up to the door next and was about to cast Genie when I realized that CoS might block Line of Sight...

But now the whole dynamic of Cloak of Shadows is in question and up for interpretation.
Hypothetically, if the Wizard cast Cloak of Shadows and the Elf would later cast Disappear on himself and run through the CoS, this would cancel out the Disappear spell?
Fire of Wrath, which doesn't require Line of sight, could be cast, but if the monster it targets is either in or passed the CoS, it cannot attack him?
A strategic plan I had for the Wizard on an enemy sorcerer was casting Cloak of Shadows over him as well as Chains of Darkness, preventing him from moving out and casting a spell. So now it seems that plan can't work either.
Furthermore, if CoS blanks out all Magic, couldn't it also be used to cover a Fireburst trap (which is a Magical Trap) and just dismiss the effects?
Under that logic it seems like it would also dissipate Wall of Ice or Wall of Flame spells too.

I see this spell as just being a deep darkness. It doesn't cancel out spells or anything like that, it is just so dark inside that anyone standing there can't see anything at all and therefore cant attack or cast spells. The only thing you can do is stumble through it. Once your outside, any spell that was upon you before you went inside is still active. Technically it was still active whilst you were inside the cloak tile, but its most likely you won't be able to do anything with it as you can't attack or be attacked inside.

Did you ever read the (great) Drizzt d'Urden novels? The Dark Elves were able to summon an orb of darkness that functioned in the way described above.

Thanks for clearing that up Pancho, I guess lestodante's interpretation is a bit different and kinda threw me off.

I've only read the 2nd and 3rd Drizzt novels.

I've only read the 2nd and 3rd Drizzt novels.

It's only my interpretation, but I think it makes sense.

If memory serves, it was in the later book The Legacy where the dark Elves (Drow) are really throwing down these orbs, and causing all sorts of trouble for the Heroes. Come to think of it that book, and maybe some of the earlier Drizzt stories when he's alone trying to survive in the underdark, would make for a really great HQ quest pack...

Pancho is referring to the Forgotten Realms series regarding the Dark Elf Drizzt, by R. A. Salvatore. This is not related to Hero Quest, but has the fantasy world theme of such.

However three books by Dave Morris were made with the HeroQuest title: Fellowship of Four, The Tyrant's Tomb and the Screaming Scepter. See link below:

Can someone post a picture or scan of the elusive "Multi-piece" Cloud of Chaos tile(s)? I'd like to see that...
