Greetings from Tarpon Springs, FL (on the gulf coast). I've enjoyed this website and forum so I thought I'd join up. Here's my HeroQuest story:
I bought the game new at Toys R Us when it was still in the stores. At the time I was married and in my 20's, but as someone who played RPG's* and collected miniatures when I was younger I found the visuals and the overall concept very appealing. The game was simple enough to convince family members to play and I eventually found the first two Quest Packs in the Toys R Us close-out bin for $5.00 each!
When I got divorced, I left my HQ games behind (I'm afraid to ask my ex what became of them) and didn't think of the game again until my daughter was old enough to play. I found a copy of the Game System on eBay that was in good condition and we've been playing ever since, although it goes in spurts. My daughter and I have many inside jokes derived this game including "the chinkle" which is the sound of Zargon rifling through the plastic miniatures looking for the appropriate monster. She'd open a door and say "oh no, not the chinkle!". Even though she's 21 now she still likes to play and my 13 year old son has recently gotten hooked on this game. He has been asking to pay ever night lately, which is a nice change from Sonic and Minecraft video games for him.
I'd like to find a few more people in my area to play since I've never participated in a HQ session where everyone gets to play a single hero. That sounds like it would be a lot of fun as playing multiple heroes can be a bit tedious. I'm also looking to purchase some of the henchmen/mercenary figures to use as other characters and maybe run the big Advanced Quest from the UK version eventually. Perhaps I'll take a stab at creating my own quest someday like I often did in my RPG gaming days.

*The RPG I payed back in the 80's was a D&D variant called "The Fantasy Trip". My user name here was my characters name back then.
