I might make the leap to painting one day, but when I do, I'd follow you and KK's example of keeping one unpainted set!

Darkworld, Legend of Zagor, Dragon Strike (very shitty minis in that), Warhammer 4th and 5th edition (plastics are cheap, mostly).
Fantasy Warriors board game from Grenadier (only Orcs and Dwarfs in there, but very fitting, stylewise).

I think that's part of my own concern when I color-code my minis. Also, I like the quick visual reference that color-coding gives.

Again, I guess I just need to search ebay for those different HQ-compatible minis. I've gotta pace myself! :p

I think what knightkrawler is saying in so many words is that he doesn't like his own painting enough to risk it. That's how I felt with mine when I started, and even still feel to an extent.

You are not. I want to keep a whole set unpainted. A year ago, when I wasn't planning on painting minis, I collected older Warhammer and plastic board game minis, put them on HQ bases and color coded them with Army Painter spray primers, similar to what you are doing now. Skaven - fur brown, beastmen - desert yellow, goblins - greenskin, dark elves - alien purple, and whatnot.

Now the plan is to keep my HQ minis unpainted (an entire set, including all four EU expanssions, and including characters from every quest book),
paint one entire set
plus proxies for NA and White Dwarf and other official sets
plus minis for future expansions I play with in my head, all in vastly different styles (minis from Hordes, new Warhammer, Reaper, and what have you, but still trying to maintain style coherence within such an expansion).

I have 800 minis I can think of a use in HQ for.

I'm starting to get mini fever!

Does Ye Olde Inn ever host unpainted mini exchanges? Or am I in the minority of people who like the "default" look?

No worries, I own the entire game. He can have them. He made the mistake of bidding instead of the BIN option.
