Ah, OK. Sjeng's right. But the slicer is not as wide as the block of cheese, so basically it's still grating, just not in a size suitable for salad or spaghetti.
Thing is, of course it looks like a freakin' mess that way.

No it wouldn't if done correctly. My cheese is always wider than a regular slicer. You simply slice on the left side, next on the right side. You get neat sheets of cheese to put on your bread. Not a completely crumbled to death cheese block. Not unless this cheese is very crumbly, which I find a strange attribute for cheese... Sigh, must I really take pictures?

That's the thing. Some American cheeses I heard, are, well, crumbly. I call them instant cheese.
I just use a cheese knife. A great orc weapon look, too.

Of course, but do you buy a whole cheese wheel in the supermarket? No. You buy a 500g piece (or less) in wedges or blocks.
