Revealing monsters in a line in a corridor

Discuss the Rules of HeroQuest as set out by Milton Bradley Game Systems and Quest Packs.

Looking through the quests, in most cases it doesn't matter since either way it results in a very similar fight. The exception is Quest 2 (fimirs, IF they even go up there) and quest 6 of KK (left side line and top exit area).
I have found it odd there is a fimir that is at the end of the corridors next to the exit that doesn't appear until they're on their way out (quests 1&2). They could completely avoid it if they wanted, and it doesn't get revealed by either of our interpretations of corridor reveal rules.

Agreed. The first 2 are exactly what I was thinking yesterday. The 3rd is another good one I didn't think of.

The UK version is more specific in this case.

“Miniatures in passages or in different rooms are only visible if you can trace an unobstructed straight line between the two miniatures. If the line passes through a wall or a closed door then the miniature is not visible.”

It does not mention other miniatures blocking “seen”, only walls and closed doors.

And after all this discussion, the Avalon Hill HeroQuest project manager has announced they would change the NA "see" rule in corridors so that monsters don't block LoS when placing the contents. Thankfully, the design team at least heard out a fan about this inconsistency and steered the rule back to the simpler EU intent. Score one for the squeaky wheel, even though he used Twitter! :P

I guess the other thing that might happen is that you'd have the Heroes all in a line in a corridor and one wanting to heal another hero who has a third hero blocking the LOS between them. Or a monster with a ranged attack shooting from behind the monster in front of him in a similar situation. Could lead to some abuse I would think if that were allowed (in the NA rules).

If you do allow the exception for short/tall characters, you open it up to that sort of thing.

I believe the new monster-placement-in-corridors rule isn't meant to be applied to all LoS in a corridor. Spell casting and missile fire can still be blocked by figures.

Just whether you place the figures on the board, right.
