Could you please PM me with a link to this useful person? Thanks

@ Weltenlaeufer & Pancho: Oi! You gentleman might want to take your dirty business elsewhere! ;)

That being said, erm... @ Weltenlaeufer: I would be kinda interested in that info as well... ;)

Anyway, back to the thread's actual subject, eh? I needed to paint something quick and fun, and possibly due to the influence of my recent Mice and Mystics outing, I chose one of the old Advanced HeroQuest Skaven:

Now those guys do fit the general HeroQuest look rather well, but they are not spectacular models. Which made trying to get them to look cool even more interesting ;)

Here's a picture from during the painting process last night:

And here's the finished model:

And here's another comparison shot: The new Skaven next to his cousin that was painted 25-ish years ago:

Unlike with my very first HeroQuest models, I knew what I was doing by that time -- but only just barely, as you can see: The left model looks more like a rabid chihuahua than a ratman ;)

As always, let me know what you think! :)

Looks great!

The warrior from Advanced Heroquest is a fantastic mini!

Not a real fan of the Advanced HQ models but you did a very good job except that you could put much effort in finding some good bases, or at least to cover the slot holes!

Thanks for the comments, guys! :)

@ arch8ngel: Hm, on the one hand, it's this slightly dodgy model with lots of truly awkward lines, and yet it does have a certain retro charm, doesn't it? ;)

@ lestodante: I definitely see what you mean about the Advance HeroQuest models, and I agree that they don't quite match the quality of HQ's models (or their iconic look). The fact that we only basically get the same monster twenty times in a row certainly doesn't help. Then again, Advanced HeroQuest seems more like a toolkit than a fully rounded out package in hindsight, so I guess the models were somehow less of a focus. Nevertheless, the Skaven do at least look right at home next to the HQ monsters. And I actually do love the workmanlike look of Advanced HeroQuest's Men-at-arms.

You are absolutely correct about the bases, of course, but those are just placeholders, since I haven't decided on a basing scheme yet: Seeing how the Adv. HQ models have actual, separate bases, some kind of "proper" basing will have to take part, but I have not yet chosen the right approach. So expect those bases to look better, eventually ;)

Thantos has got his HQ bases back in stock if you wanted to go down that route. You could base all your dungeon minis on HQ bases so that they blend in with the minis you’ve already painted. That’s what I’m doing now.

I definitely have a different feeling about the Advanced Heroquest Hero miniatures than some, it would seem! :P

My order from Warmonger finally arrived last weekend, and their wizard and elf model are VERY similar to the advanced heroquest minis.
(the elf is practically the same sculpt, just with his head turned toward his sword rather than toward his bow)

I would love to find a metal equivalent to the AHQ warrior, since I find the imperial feather/plume style to be an iconic part of that era, and he has a fairly unique look.
