I can agree with you about applying washes to the figures. I have found that ether I end up using the wrong color wash or the wrong tone, which then forces me to start over again because the color scheme will end up off.

What size brush are you using 0 or 00?

For these I used a 2/0 kolinsky sable brush with "Golden maple" on the handle. I believe it was from this set: https://www.amazon.com/Professional-Siberian-Kolinsky-Miniature-Watercolor/dp/B06XTJYMMB/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1509556642&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=kolinsky+sable+brushes&psc=1
It's the first brush I've used that lasted through more than 3-4 minis. I have a Series 7 brush, but I've been too scared to take it out of the packaging for worry that I'll ruin it. The off-brand set cost just a little more than the single Series 7, so it continues to gather dust.

Take that Series 7 out and ride it like a Lamborghini!
Make sure you have this: Image
and know how and when to use it.
The small pot will last you a lifetime and make your Lamborghini stay with you for a good long time.
Don't wash or drybrush with it, don't even basecoat with it, and you'll have fun with that tip like nobody's business.

my favourite mummies are the two with red skin. The two in the centre are missing some shadows through badages, but they are also looking very nice. But the darkest ones are way better.

Hello again!
I have some pictures of the first group of Orcs that I painted up. I plan to post each weapon group as I go along, as waiting until all 16 Orcs are done would crush my spirits. Because they carry cleavers, I painted these fellows with white tunics, hopefully making them look like Zargon's chefs.

And the whole group:

As always, more pictures and information at my blog: https://darthtomsgaming.wordpress.com/2018/02/11/orcs-from-classic-heroquest-part-1-the-butcher-boys/

That's all for now. Please leave a comment or critique, as I appreciate your feedback.

Absolutely beautiful, especially the cleavers. Usually I would prefer a little more color variation in NMM, like a touch of brown or sky blue or even green, but your style is rather uniquely clean. The flawless metal serves a purpose of style coherence. Even though these are filthy unkempt Orcs, as long as you don't dirty them up completely, the cleanliness of their weapons is more than fine.
Again, quite a nice experience to look at your results. |_P
