Whilst I think that we might all agree that "Mighty Warriors" wasn't a great game, although I do admire aspects of the designers ingenuity in fulfilling a remit that I suspect was "design something that allows us to get rid of excess stock of AHQ sprues with minimal effort and cost" (like the use of the shields as objective tokens), there is one aspect of the game that I thought was interesting from a HeroQuest point of view, buried deep in the manual.

Mighty Warriors wrote:Models can move in any direction including diagonally. They may not move through any square occupied by another model of either side, or through squares that are blocked.

It then provides a couple of diagrams that indicate that a model cannot move diagonally if BOTH orthogonal squares are blocked.

Whether it is really worth the complication of explanation and two diagrams is an open question, but this rule might benefit HeroQuest.

And for those purchasing Mighty Warriors for the sole purpose of using the floor tiles in games of HQ (that was me 30 years ago, but having written many quests I have never yet actually used these floor tiles, so I finally sold them recently, is that a small twinge of regret I feel now...it is, but I'm quietly confident that in another 30 years time they would still have been gathering dust, so I have set them free for someone else to actually use), there are some tile specific rules around movement on the board sections that are also worth considering...

It costs 2 points of movement to go up or down stairs

Roll a 5 or 6 to climb the spiked fence (not sure of my own notes here) although this one probably needs a little more imagination, maybe for HQ a combat die roll with :whiteshield: = success, :skull: indicating failure, :blackshield: indicating failure and a loss of 1BP or something similar.

I rember there was a table inside the top box which is used to throw the dice.
If you roll the dice in the correct squares of the table, your dice are valid, in other squares they are nullified.
I found this mechanic nice.

A too original mechanic for my taste    however I own a copy of this -infamous- game

Nevertheless, it is true that designers of this kind of low-rate GW games (Ultra Marines, Space Fleet, etc.) were really imaginative because of the weird restrictions they have to keep during their design process. They were forced to use just some pre-decided miniatures, always plastic sprue excedances from other bigger games like Advanced Heroquest and Advanced Space Crusade.

Honestly I always saw interesting using the Wizard Hero miniature as an evil wizard commanding skavens.

Quite right, another example of innovation caused by constraints...but I too was never a fan of the rolling the dice into squares within the box lid, always felt like players would have rapidly developed a niche skill of carefully directing dice throws, or at least they would have done if anyone ever played it regularly!

Any thoughts on adopting the diagonal-ish movement rule for HQ?

... and yet that very box rolling mechanic is picked up and used in the recently released crowd funded "OrcQuest," so I see from the various videos about it online (although it is a constructed mini box rather than the lid itself).
