I am now the new ruler of Firetop Mountain

So last night I actually completed my first Fighting Fantasy book ever with no cheating at all and doing all the fights and rolls the right way.
As a kid I would just skip all the fighting, I always won, I was always lucky and I always kept my finger on the previous page just in case...
But this time around I did it all. The book was the first in the series "Warlock of Firetop Mountain".
It was pretty good. A bit too much mazerunning for my taste, but at least no instant deaths either (that I encountered at least...)

But what made me go back to read these old books?
Well, look at these pictures and tell me you don't get the urge!
Apparently Pure Evil Miniatures are making a kickstarter for a line of FF resin miniatures. They are very faithfully recreated from the original covers and illustrations.

Hey cool!
I always loved these kinds of adventure books. I ignored instant deaths, but apart from that I was playing them faithfully. My Parents would go to make holiday at the beach for three weeks each year. It was so boring I was happy to have these kinds of books with me.
The most complicated ones I was mapping on a piece of paper when I found it difficult to find the solution.

Awesome minis. Might take a look at some of them for painting-only models.
I did something very similar to you when I was young, GK. I used to start them faithfully and lost patience for rolling because I always cheated when rolling for the three stats in the first place. And I kept losing interest after failing or when - for example - strolling through that freakin' labyrinth in Firetop Mountain for an hour real time.
A year ago I bought 20 FF books from the UK for dirt cheap, but I haven't had the combination of inclination, time, and patience at the same time to play one yet.

They're doing a new series of the books. Billiam Babble (from Inked Adventures) is doing at least some
of the illustrations...maybe all, I can't remember. Check it out.

The only way the could get me to read as a kid was these books. My mam was so happy they'd found something to get me reading. I wonder if the prices jump up with the minis coming out. Nostalgia is kick in.

I recently read through Armies of Death my children. They really enjoyed it even though we got one of the instant death endings. I remember reading lots of these books when I was younger but only seem to own one now. Maybe I'll have to go looking for some more.

The miniatures look awesome. Any idea what scale they are?

Never heard of this here in the US. All of the used books are in the UK but still cheap so I ordered this one. Thanks for pointing this out! I'm betting my 8 year old will love it and we'll be ordering more.

No idea. I'm praying they are just standard scale so they can actually be used in games as well.
I'm already dreaming of actually converting the books to HQ-quests using the new minis.
I believe it's very doable. Not much special ruling would be needed either - if any at all.

I just now noticed my new sub-title: Really looks like David Bowie
Who wrote that - And how did you know?

I think I've seen your mugshot somewhere, too, but I can't seem to recall where. Do you conduct yourself ... safely ... on the internet?
