Started a new 'Dungeon'

Postby cynthialee » January 9th, 2012, 1:56 pm

Yesterday we started a new campaign. I have taken the old classic D&D dungeon "B3 The Palace of the Silver Princess" and converted it to the RPG we play.

Should prove to be allot of fun revisiting this old classic.

This will be the first old school dungeon crawl for some of the crew who are more ussed to playing on the mean streets of a post apocalyptic mega city set in a fantasy realm. They have plenty of street smarts but their dungeoning skills will be developed, honed and tested over the next few game sessions.
So far they are doing ok but they are only about 1/4 of the way in. All the really dangerous encounters are further into the dungeon.

Anyways.
Have a great day.

If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

About 2 months back my gaming group finished Keep on the Borderlands using AD&D 1st ed. rules. So far, my HQ skeletons have seen action in the shrine of evil from that module. I plan to bring the HQ doors for future use on the D&D dungeon tiles I printed out. Tiles make 1st ed AD&D so much better (I should know, I'm the mapper).

Sometimes I don't know which is more frustrating, the obtuse ruleset or our DM's arbitrary use of some of the rules while discarding others. Despite all that, old-school dungeon-crawling has its charms. We recently started the Slavelords series, then it's on to the Giants and after that the Drow modules. For a finale we'll see our PCs off to oblivion in Tomb of Horrors. Assuming we even last that long...it will take months, if not years.

Good luck with your improved ruleset. Do you think you'll continue on into an old-school campaign? If so, what will be your next adventure?

I am thinking that once they finish this old dungeon I will move on to some more home made stuff until they are ready for Tomb of Horrors. If they survive tomb of horrors I will likey run them through Ravenloft. (the first incarnation of course) So far with Ravenloft I have a 99% kill rate. Only one guy ever survived that dungeon in my game circle. He was in a 15 man group and saw the Baron pick off his homies one by one. It finally came down to the last few hitpoints and the guy actually beat the old vampire. Instead of looting the castle he looked around at his dead homeboys and looted all their magic items and gold then left the dungeon probably one of the richest player characters I ever seen. Keep in mind that Ravenloft requires powerful characters with magic items and the loot from 14 dead hereos was very impressive.

I missed out on some cool adventures. I didn't play DnD until they ruined it with 3rd edition and try as I might I could never get into it. At least I assume that they ruined it with 3rd edition, because if it was always that impossible to play I don't know how it ever stayed around for so long. :)

they ruined D&D with 2nd edition, so much so I had to write up my own RPG system

The conversion from D&D to my RPG is kinda tricky as we are playing a skills bassed game without 'character classes' and levels. You can call yourself a warrior if you want but if you don't have the skills to back that claim ... whatever.
