I'm just curious, I've read it's a sequeal of sorts to heroquest, but from what I gathered it sounds like it was only in the uk? Just my own curosity.

It was released in other European countries as well. I don't believe it was released in America.

My buddy bought AHQ in the US way back in the 90s. I believe he bought it in a hobby store.

Like Daedalus, my friend bought AHQ back in the mid-'90s at a hobby store (HobbyTown USA). We didn't like it as much as regular HeroQuest and I think we went back to making up our own quests for regular HQ after just a couple AHQ sessions.

EDIT: But it just now occured to me that maybe the OP was referring to "HeroQuest Advanced Edition" which was basically the same as HeroQuest but had "The Dark Company" quests and only game out in Europe.

AHQ was hella rare in the US. Toystores didn't carry it, only hobby shops or mail order would sell it.

Milton Bradley carried Hero Quest and Battle Master, so they could get them to retail stores. I had seen Hero Quest and Battle Master being sold in big retail chains like Toys 'R' Us, K-Mart and Wallmart, and smaller chains like K.B. Toys and Hobbies, where they were sold in large quantities — I'm talking whole aisles stacked to the ceiling with them — and were fairly inexpensive ($20 for the core sets and $15 for the Quest Packs, and would be marked down if they did not sold enough).

Games Workshop carried Advanced Hero Quest and Warhammer Quest, so they where more limed to the imported market. I have seen Advanced Hero Quest and Warhammer Quest sold in small game stores and hobby shops — ether a small regional chain store, or a small independently owned "Mom & Pop Shop". They were in smaller quantities, usually a whole shelf (not as big as the big toy stores), and sold for about twice as much ($40-50 for the core sets, $25 for the Quest Packs, and $15 for each of the boxed WHQ Heroes!!!).

So yeah, AHQ was sold in the US, but you had to know were to look.

If a shop sold Advanced HeroQuest, then most likely, it also sold Terror in the Dark.

Don't know. My friend only bought the base game.
