[PREVIEW][Quest Pack][2 Quests] The Goblin Dilemma EU PDF

Postby Zenithfleet » Wednesday March 21st, 2012 10:13am

My second preview Quest Pack! :D

'The Goblin Dilemma' is the complete opposite of my previous preview pack ('Trials, Dark Deeds and Terrors'). That was fairly straightforward, while this one is twenty pages long for just two Quests! Plenty of special rules and detailed Quest Notes for those who like that sort of thing... but all you need is the HeroQuest boxed game and a few optional extras.

Intended for the European (UK/Australian) edition of the game.

Summary
Tharamon the Indolent, a noted Aeromancer, has a small Goblin problem. Namely, they've moved into his house without his permission and are busy wrecking the place. The Heroes are called in as pest control. Unfortunately, Tharamon hasn't had time to deactivate his magical defences. Just reaching the tower will be hard enough, and once there, the Heroes had best be careful not to steal from the irascible Aeromancer or vandalise his strange home...

Requirements
Needed: HeroQuest boxed game (UK/Australian ruleset for preference)
Optional: My EU Quest Treasure card pack (available in the Cards subforum) - descriptions of the items are included in this Quest Pack if you don't want to download the cards
Optional: Goblin Spearmen and Goblin Archers
Optional: 3 Pit of Darkness tiles from Against the Ogre Horde

Difficulty
Should be played after completing basic questbook. The Morcar player should be experienced due to the large number of new rules and Quest Notes.

Quests included
'Goblins in the Garden' - Explore a wizard's garden in an attempt to reach his tower. Beware of tunnels, enchanted glass greenhouse walls, peculiar zoological specimens, invincible guardian statues, and one frothing nutter armed with an enormous ball and chain...
'The Aeromancer's Tower' - Ascend the floors of the wizard's tower and exterminate the Goblin infestation. Watch out for holes in the floor, mysterious traps and perplexing puzzles, a multitude of highly mischievous Gobbos, more invincible guardian statues (thankfully dormant... for now), dead things in the basement, and tempting treasure...

Please note that the detail is entirely for the Evil Wizard (Morcar) player's benefit. Gameplay for the Heroes is standard, simple, streamlined EU HeroQuest--there's no need for funny-shaped dice or anything like that (unless you want to add them in, of course).

This is a preview - you may notice some unfinished-looking art and formatting in here. (I've already spotted a couple of problems and typos... aargh!) I haven't had a chance to playtest these Quests, and I'm a little worried that they might contain some fatal flaw thanks to the new special rules. Feedback would be appreciated! :)

ERRATA as of version 1:
Quest 1 doesn't actually work as written - oops... I'll revise it as soon as I can!
The Gargoyle in Quest 1: 'Goblins in the Gardens' does NOT count as a Wind Guardian.
Gold found by treasure searches in Quest 1 is NOT considered Tharamon's. The Heroes may keep it without penalty.
In the Completing This Quest section: Tharamon will NOT accept Quest Treasures gained during this Quest Pack as payment upon completion. Any Quest Treasure used to pay the penalty must be from an earlier adventure.
I may need to add a punishment from Tharamon for destroying a Wind Guardian with the Magical Throwing Dagger or letting the Bottled Air Elemental escape.
References to 'Resurrection Draught' in the Quest Notes for Quest 2 and the Design Notes section should actually be 'Elixir of Life' (forgot to change the name everywhere... note to self, Ctrl-F!)

wow ! Very complete, quite difficult to understand all the subtility and all the goal of each of the new rules without playing those quests, but I will like to test them, even alone. Unfortunately, they're too difficult to be computed for the game master program. I will certainly test them with my players (with minor modifications) but not for now because I'm already playtesting a 10 quest pack I made by myself.

So I know it is very difficult to create some quests and I tell you just one thing : "very great job !!!"

Er, so... you may have noticed that the first Quest, Goblins in the Garden, may have one or two fatal flaws. One at the start caused by my mistaken understanding of line-of-sight rules (not having owned the rulebook for many years!) and the other (impassable Zombie statues) caused by changing the rules for pushing at the last minute.

I hope to get a revised version of the PDF up soon to fix these problems. I still haven't been able to playtest these though - even solo - because, um, I don't actually have a gameboard where I'm currently living. Ahem. Working on it...

Here's a pdf of the gameboard. Have it printed: rightclick save target as By Cyber333 aka Bradley Boruch.

And an edited gameboard with wider corridors here. By Flint.

drathe, any chance of putting these in the artchives?

Is this one still being developed? 'Cos the scenario alone sold me.
