Are there any other fans of Game of Thrones out there?
I was late to the party, having watched all 5 seasons back to back last year. Which in its self has advantages.
But now i eagerly wait for season 6 to air and cant wait. Its fair to say i'm hooked.
To help pass time, i am wathing it over again and this is helping to get a better understanding on the story.
Who are your favourite caracters? Mine has to be Tyrian the grumpy dwarf, hes just ace.

I got a lot more appreciation for the background when I started reading the books, as well as a better feel for the characters.

Tyrion is a favourite of almost everyone, although you have to admire Jaime's evolution from what appears to be a pompous jerk into someone who tries to do the right thing.

... and maybe losing that path again because of Cersei.

The character evolutions are pretty awesome to follow.
Who knows if Daenerys is not becoming a *stanky orchid* in her own right?
I love the moral ambiguities as much as the viewership's tendency of evaluating in their own bigotry that derives from living in this plane's reality.

I also tend to find the less obviously popular characters more interesting than Tyrion, Jon, and Daenerys.
Arya, Sansa, Ramsay, Pod, Varys. Littlefinger - I hate his freakin' guts - seems to have been the most important character up to here. He has driven the plot before and during. How will he end up?

It may be a mistake to root for any one character at any given time, that's what I find most interesting to watch and read.

Tyrion is my favorite, but I think his character in the books is so much better because you get to see what his inner monologue is. Arya is a close second. I do like Jaime in the books a lot more too, because of his attempts to do better. Also, he is less receptive to his sister after he loses his hand in the book than he is in the TV show. I like Bran although you don't read much about him after he learns to watch from the trees. I like the chair-bound Prince of Dorne in the books (although I'm blanking his name right now).

I'm a huge fan of this. Despite struggling to read through the latest 3 books I still find myself checking every month or so to see if a release date has been set for the next installment.

Me, too. Doran Martell. He's level-headed, cunning, has his family's longterm interests at heart, but trying to not fraggle over anyone if at all possible.
His family think he's soft and cowardish, but they don't see the bigger picture as he does.
One of the more likeable characters in terms of power and responsibly.

He's definitely prefers strategy and politics over brute force to win over his opponents. That's one of the reasons I really like him. Plus, like you said, he's one of the few family heads that's not a rat bastard.

Stannis was also a favourite of mine. I really didnt want him to die.
The film sets are pretty awesome too, its all very well done.
I heard rumours Jon Snow may not be dead, anyone else know if he comes back?

He's obviously a main character, and by that I don't mean Ned Stark main, but important to the mythical/epic aspect of the storyline...
The prophecies and the mysteries about his background and his latent skinchanging and everything points to him having a big part of the story to come.
Melisandre is at the wall, mind you. Thoros, the other red priest, was known to bring back Dondarrion back to life repeatedly.

But we'll see. I'm not one to cling to character lives for the sake of their popularity, but I think he'll come back.
Maybe as a Wight or even as a White Walker without the evil tendencies or something...similar to Coldhands/Benjen Stark in the books.
Maybe he saved himself subconsciously by skinchanging into Mormont's crow (which has almost prophetic functions in the book, but I'm not quite there yet at Jon's death).

The whole Stark storyline has more meaning to it than that it seems to wiped out.
It will come back strong. Very different, but strong. Methinks. Could be completely off, but this is not The Walking Dead.
There's hope in Game of Thrones.
