cassette tapes?
Is there a way to wire your C64 into your modern box, and save the file?

Might need an old parallel cable - IF C64 had those...
no saying if the modern comp has that either!...

Sadly I couldn't get the tape to work... That's the way of the Commodore and I respect that... Oooooommmmm!

For the sake of preserving the software, tap-files are very easy to come by. I just think it's cool when you can actually get the original stuff to work.
If you don't care if it's an original tape or just some random mix tape, getting any software you want is pretty easy.

My little weekend project was to try and use a smartphone and one of those Car-Discman-to-Cassette-tape to load downloaded software.
The idea is to convert the tap-files to wav-files and then play them on your phone into the car-tape.

To my amazement I actually got it to work! A little unstable even for the c64, but it worked!

I've worn the magnetic material off my tapes since the mid 80's.

You've made me want to see if my tape still works. Gonna have to rewire my C64 tape deck first.

Has anyone see or used the new C64 that I heard so much about, I've still never come across one

Those "new" C64s don't make any sense.
As far as I can understand it doesn't hook up to original C64 hardware - the datasette, disk drive, joysticks etc...
It's just a normal PC that visually looks like a C64.

What I think a lot of people would rather have had, was a computer that in addition to being a, well... computer... could read and run (not emulate) the original software.
What it looks like is a little more irrelevant.
Or even just a complete replica of the original, with the original boards and chips. Just it's brand new and not old and half broken.
