HeroQuest - the next generation

Postby Thinker » November 7th, 2015, 9:22 am

Hi folks, just signed up and thought I'd introduce myself.

I've glanced at a few posts and I can see my story is similar to a lot of yours: I loved HQ as a kid, and now have the opportunity to relive the enjoyment with the kids in my family. We've enjoyed playing lego Heroica together and I think they're at an age where they're ready for something a little more complex. Luckily, my old HQ set is safely stashed in the attic!

I'm looking forward to reading through all the quest and customization ideas here. It's a great site. Thanks to all of you!

The idea that you can not fire a bow at close targets is patently false and not with in the realm of what is/was real.
In fact allot of our opinions of archery is very wrong. When our high fantasy games were developed our understanding of what was possible with arrows came from a modern perspective, not a historical truth set.
Read this article and watch the videos. After I did I have had to make some substantial and game changing rules adjustments to reflect this new information.

Now of course this guy is an Ace and few could match his skills, but his basic techniques are duplicable by the normal archer and likely were used by our forefathers.

http://www.odditycentral.com/news/real- ... rcher.html

Bows were bad ass game changers in the hands of skilled archers.
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

hummm... wrong thread? :D
Problem with Bows and short distance is the defense, not the offense. Given enough distance, they are absolutely deadly without protection... shields were of some use, i guess.
