I've just created a new topic, that I want to turn into a poll, to chose the monsters.

I compiled an index composed of links for reference of this thread. It includes all relevant HQ 25 monster posts including stats, ability suggestions, and comments (sometimes you need to read down a post for relevant info.) Bolded entries are the officially-chosen six monsters from the 3. HQ25 - Choose your monsters + stats topic. Underlined entries are general monster types that contain subtypes. Italicized entries are monsters from the Main Game System. Though many entries don't qualify as one of the six agreed-upon monsters, I included them anyway for completeness and they may inspire other uses in the expansion.

Why bother? My aim is to provide an efficient and logical means for understanding what the community has presented as a whole. A few of the other threads contain relevant information that also can be edited in for linking (more to do.) From here, polls can be created with just the relevant monster links included between them so that all Inn members can have an informed, equal say in choosing the final form of each of the six HQ 25 monsters. I'd suggest this should be done one monster poll at a time so that a more manageable set of links could be explored and discussed, then move on. Editors will reserve the right to make adjustments, as per the Design Document.

But is this topic dedicated to the GameZone 25th anniversary version or is it intended for the classic game?

Sjeng wrote:Well, with the recent 25th anniversary stuff going on, I would like to ask if you all are willing to participate on the following idea:

We, Inn members, create a large quest pack as a special 25th anniversary quest book thingy.

The idea is that we devise a loose storyline. Something not too set in stone, but a general idea.
Then we make quests. We post them, and see if we can mold them all into a logical story.
We create a cool template for the pdf, with a nice 25th logo (working on that already), and release it to the public as an exclusive Ye Olde Inn fanbase project.

<snip>

It was intended for the original version, that we were going to make.

(Holy crap, has it really been 5 years since that discussion started taking place? Wow.)
War is not the answer...unless the question is, 'What is not the answer?'

If I had my druthers, this pack would only include a couple new monsters that weren't in the original release. Since I view YeOldeInn and Thantos' miniatures as two sides of the same coin, ideally the few new monsters added in would be easily obtainable as a "HQ25" monster pack from Zealot. I'm thinking kobolds, minotaur, maybe the female adventurers and some generic evil dudes. It should be complementary and generic so it's widely applicable to many hobbyists' collections, is what I'm saying. And affordable, maybe in the $50 range.

Obviously I'm coming in to this five years late, so my opinion doesn't have a lot of weight, but the precedent of a few new monsters and a big baddie has already been set with the existing official quest packs, so I think we should honor that.

EDIT: I'm also absolutely IN LOVE with the idea that the descendants of the original heroes take the helm in this one. Maybe all four descendants are being told they're too young to go adventuring, they've got comfortable houses, etc. They've got no reason to go out into the world.

Then at the celebration ceremony Thrawn suggested way back on page three, suddenly the whole platform disappears in a blinding flash. The kids are the only ones who can save their parents! A ghostly voice shouts over the tumult... "Your so-called HEROES are my prisoners! Bring their heirs to my fortress or their parents will be food for the worms! MWA-ha-ha!"

EDIT EDIT: "Heiroquest!" Sounds like "aeroquest," invokes HeroQuest for anyone who sees/hears it, dodges the copyright issues. BAM! YOU'RE WELCOME

EDIT EDIT EDIT: Oh man, the creative juices are flowing now! The young heroes should have to save their parents in an escort quest! Similar to Ragnar, they're in a weakened state once rescued. The kids get to take the savior role for a game! Can the parents recuperate and then join in on a later quest?! Thantos could make older, "semi-retired" versions of the original heroes.

Man, if you guys aren't into these ideas I'm gonna make my own pack! :)

Looking back, Goblin-King warned the most loudly that we were in danger of biting off more than we could chew. We'll, satisfying our fannish nature overtook that sentiment and the bar was set at 25 Quests. That's three group Quest Packs of material, so 6 New monsters and even several new spell sets makes sense when framed this way. And we still need too work up some new artifacts!

On the subject of cost, one thing I'd add to the wish list is paper mini files for the monsters. That way those on a budget without the needed figures could still play the Quest pack.

I would also like to have the Spell Card sets and Artifact Cards easily viewable from a smart phone to keep printing costs down. Hell, even the Quest Book could be referenced from a smart phone.
