drathe: The best way to see what type of shots I'm after is to download my HQ module and play it. The photos of the miniatures were taken from a top down viewpoint with a slight angle so that you could see the front of the mini. That way you could identify each mini easier.

These are two of the mini shots:

Just last year I found a near mint copy of HQ (just a couple minis had some painting started) for $5 at a flea market nearby. So there's still some good deals to be had. I wouldn't actively search day-in and day-out for HQ in these places, but if you're near one, take a minute and stop in. You never know.

LurchBrick: I'll see what I can do.

Propably the same thing that happened to Warhammer Quest and now costs an arm and a leg, is going to happen with HQ.

Nope for a long time !
Warhammer Quest is going to be reedited by Fantasy Flight Games (Descent & co) which has the exploitation licence from GW old games so some people can try to get profit on ebay until the release.
It happened with Space Hulk games : it costs nothing now since the V3 is better than the 2 previous ones and includes all marines figurines and different genestealers. The modular board is also better and everyone can od it so old versions lost all their rare value.

The year they lost the HeroQuest brandname, Hasbro bought D&D so now they don't need to deal again with GW for HeroQuest even if they have all the rights in Europe.
They are launching new D&D Raven Loft (in a Descent way) in august 2010 (16th) then another box in december. so yes, the prices for vintage games like HQ is going to be higher and higher for those who never bought it.

When HQ was out in 91-92 it costed about 20 euros (the Greek edition dont know the english retail price)

You are lucky.
In France from 1989 to 1993, the price of the basic box into supermarkets was 280 francs it equals to 40€.
Each expansion was about 99F = 15€
In 1994, the new edition box including henchmen costed 320F = 50€
The expansion Sorceers of Morcar was about 125F = 20€
(SPACE CRUSADE 280F = 40€, the 2 expansions 99F each = 15€)

So now if you look into ebay places (.nl. fr.uk. es . blabla) you will see a lot of boxes are under their prices as "new" and some other are higher. Some people also sell it with painted miniatures for a higher price.
Only Against The Ogre Horde fall into the twilight zone and US packs too.

This game and all expansions is now classified as "vintage" and more & more new people, I mean heroic fantasy fans who discovered the dunjeoning world with Descent in 2006 or D&D Hasbro in 2003 with the help of 3 huges movies too, read forums and talk with ancient like us... they discovered heroquest & warhammer quest too late.
The interest is increasing for such games, such classics and to find a old box in good condition wih nothing missing is a difficult job now.
Those past years, I used to make searchs into summer junks into villages of my region here each sunday.
I can tell you since internet is here everybody is keeping such games and try to get more & more profits : no more such games to sell...

I'm glad I could bought everything I wanted before those incredible prices.

interesting info! I never knew how much HQ cost in other countries. Back then the basic salary was about 3200 drachmas (1 euro=340 drachmas) so that means that for 2+ days of work you could get HQ. Still it was considered an expensive game from the kid point of view but not impossible to get. The fact that it was distributed by the Greek toy company El Greco (with Lyra where the predominant toy companies) may played some role. Its important to note that my Greek produced set is of the same quality as the 2 english ones i own. It says it was produced in Ireland.

Today Descent if we consider it the heir apparent of dungeon crawling games, costs 90 euro in the Greek market. That means that with 28 euro basic salary one has to work 3+ days to get it. In my opinion you get less for more. HQ had minis of an eponymous market leading company (Citadel) with great detail/plastic quality and was based on a solid world of Games Workshop universe.

The North American version was actually made in the USA, save for the dice, which were made in Germany. Back when it was released, it cost $30 CDN, not sure the price in the US, my guess would be much cheaper than that given the currency exchange between the US and Canadian dollars had a 20% difference back then. Our Quest Packs were $13 CDN for KK and WL, $20 for MM and FH.

There is another interesting thing. I noticed it when i got my first english edition. The minis seem to be of lighter color plastic comparing to my Greek set. The most difference was with the heroes minis. The red color is very bright vs the darker blood red of the Greek ones. Also there is an issue in the detail as if they were not that carefully molded or a different plastic was used. For examle the barbarian and elf swords instead of pointy are more blunt and slightly bent. The monsters are ok even the slight hue issue is very subtle. So much that yoy have to compare then side by side. The hero ones you know that there is something ''wrong'' the moment you see them. I saw some pictures like my own english minis in boardgamegeek so i know its widespread.
When i got another english HQ this time the advanced adventure set, i rushed to see if there is the same issue. But the minis in that one are identical to my Greek set. You cant tell them apart.
So there were 2 ''editions''? Meanning that something got wrong or different during the production? Is this happenning in other versions?

My dark blood red heroes also had a bend sword... I figured that was due to years of being stored in a bad position!

in the picture although painted we can see that the sword is bent and blunt almost like a club.

here the minis are dark red and the sword more pointy (mine is even more)
