The Play-by-Post forums now have the Beta version of the DiceMOD suggested by Derfel Link installed. There are a few bugs in the MOD, but nothing that really breaks anything.

To roll your dice, simply click the dice BBCode button and fill in the necessary info within the dice tags.
Code: Select all
[dice][/dice]
[dice=total][/dice]

Below are several examples of what to place within the Dice Tags

Since the d6 has both Red Dice and Combat Dice images included, it is best to state which roll you are making.
Example 1
Code: Select all
Tags Used: [dice][/dice]

Movement:
2d6

Attack:
3d6

Results wrote:Movement:
drathe rolled 2 6-sided dice:
4, 4

Attack:
drathe rolled 3 6-sided dice:
5, 2, 1

Don't forget to use the Dice Tags and fill in the # of dice followed by the type of dice. ie. #d4, #d6, #d8, #d10, #d12, #d20.

You may total dice rolls by using the example below:
Example 2
Code: Select all
Tags Used: [dice=total][/dice]
3d20

Results wrote:
drathe rolled 3 20-sided dice and got a total of 25:
7, 2, 16

The total of the three d20s will be displayed, making adding them all together a simple task.

You may also Quote another dice roll:
Example 3
Code: Select all
Tags Used: [dice][/dice]
3300:2

In the above example, the first digits before the colon is the original posts ID, the digits after the colon is the dice roll ID. You can discover this info by Quoting the post containing the desired roll from the Topic. The digits for the rolls will be displayed between the dice tags in the quoted section.
Note: Using the Quote button contained in the Topic Review history at the bottom of the Post a Reply window will not work.

invalid dice code errors:
These errors are received via current bugs in the MOD, or by incorrectly rolling/quoting dice. If the Preview button is used, the previewed post will display these errors for each dice roll made, even if they are done correctly. This is just a bug and the dice will display properly once the Submit button is clicked. When replying, you will see this error message in the Topic Review history at the bottom of the Post a Reply window within each post that has dice rolled in them. This is also a bug.
If you incorrectly roll dice, you will also receive this error in your post. Exceeding the dice limits (maximum of 20 dice per roll, maximum of 20 rolls per post), as well as rolling dice that don't exist (d2 for example) will result in invalid dice code errors.

Other Bugs
From time to time, multiple dice rolls in the same post display in the improper order after clicking Submit. Should this happen, delete the post and try again. It might be best to copy the contents of your post before clicking Submit, just in case. Then you can just paste it in another post.

Feel free to test out the dice by replying to this post and using the examples here as a guide.

Update: The Patroclus Method
When adding the dice tags to your movement/attack/defend/any roll action, follow the steps below:
  • Label the action informing everyone what the roll is for. (ie Movement:)
  • Enter the number and type of dice rolled. (ie 2d6)
  • Using your mouse, highlight/block the dice text. (the 2d6 in this example)
  • Click the dice BBCode button to wrap the selected dice text (ie 2d6) inside dice tags. (hover over the dice BBCode button for an example of what the tag should look like)
  • When you're finished completing the rest of your post contents, click the Submit button.
Keep in mind the possible "bugs" mentioned in this thread. You may have to edit your post and re-do the dice tags should they not appear properly, or not appear at all.
