It doesn't look abbreviated to me. It is a rather short title compared to the others. It could however be a "working title" still and not official.

The EAN list abbreviates “HeroQuest Ogre Horde Quest Pack” rather than listing out its full title. If they can abbreviate there, that indicates “HeroQuest First Light” COULD also be an abbreviation.

Oddly, that's not actually shorter. "Against the Ogre Horde" is the same number of words and only one character more than "Ogre Horde Quest Pack."

After scrolling through 550 pages so far, the Heroquest entries I saw all had either the full title (some of them left off "the" at the beginning) or specified that it was a quest pack or both (Mage of the Mirror). The best conclusion I can draw about any naming convention is that there really isn't one. However, if I were to infer an actual pattern then it would look like "First Light" is a full title that suggests not a character pack, but beyond that could honestly be anything from a quest pack to a revamped game system to a branded spinoff product that really has nothing to do with the game system beyond name and theme (like the Yawning Portal board game that is under the Avalon Hill trademark rather than Dungeons & Dragons.) So yeah, barring any additional releases or leaks, we absolutely don't know jack about what this product is going to be.

The latest rumor I've read is that this will be a kind of new beginning for HeroQuest. And the title is real.
What precisely that will look like remains to be seen. Discuss!

Honestly, If it's a prequel, I'm expecting a young Sir Ragnor, a Morcar, and other later corrupted heroes as the base set. but, we'll see.

That would give us the "exclusive" minis without breaking the exclusivity, which would be cool.

. . . "First Light" could also indicate some kind of call back to the "beginning" of HeroQuest. A character pack for Mentor? Rogar and his companions? A Prequel adventure for the original heroes (talked about in the prologues)? . . .

I think you are onto something there, but not the time frame.

I would be happy if the lore of Rogar, Durgan, Ladril and Telor were further expanded upon with another Quest Pack. Stephen Baker did mention he was working on something for Avalon Hill, and Prophecy of Telor certainly used his original lore as a starting point.

The Star of the West, worn by kings of legend in the ancient past, seems another likely artifact ready for the Baker treatment. This glittering diamond born on Rogar's brow really deserves more than what was vaguely attributed to it in Barak Tor--Barrow of the Witch Lord. Perhaps there is a story that explains why it was found at the Witch Lord's tomb. Like the Talisman of Lore, it might contain power usable by a Hero (the Barbarian).
